Headed down to my LGS after work today and picked up my new carry revolver. Shoots like an absolute dream and is surprisingly accurate. Recoil is very manageable. It's a S&W Model 642-2 in .38 Special with a 2.5" barrel. Very pleased I am.

Very nice.
The longer barrel sure helps the sight radius!

Those revolvers sure are nice and you have the CTC. Very sweet! I have the first 640 (no dash) 38spl+p+ rated. The first time I shot it I fell in love with it, because it's so accurate for such a small revolver. The RO at the range jokingly asked where the rest of the gun went? I pointed at the silhouette target at approximately 10 yards away with all head shot hits.

I'm a noob to revolvers but last night I placed all 25 shots inside the 8 ring at 12 yards wit my 442.

THey are accurate once one figures out the trigger.

I have the M&P .357 and do not like the feel the CT grips give it at all. Have you shot it yet in this config.?

I am going to go back to the stock rubber grips I think. The CT's are just hard plastic and make it hard to hold on to.

Haha, I wish man. I spend a lot of time in NV with my family. I carry there with my NV out of state CCW permit or occasionally inside my home here in the north bay.

Yeah, I find it comfortable. Plus the stock rubber grips hang up in a pocket holster when you draw. The CT's draw much, much nicer. The stock rubbers are great for the range but not for carry, IMO.

I love S&W airweights, my 442 would be the last gun I ever got rid of if I had to. They are surprisingly accurate and easy to handle and they hide in a pocket easily. I have Hogue bantam j-frame grips on mine and I think they are even more comfortable than the stock grips. I have no problem with the rubber grips snagging the pocket on a draw because my hand is covering the grip surface. The grip sticks to my hand very well.

I thought of getting laser grips but I really like the Hogue's better, and the gun is easy enough to hit what you are pointing at that for me, laser grips aren't necessary. They are nice though.

Very nice!

May I ask a favor please? Would you please take a photo of the grips straight from behind (and if you have a pair of calipers, take a width measurement)?

I have a 442 and just picked up a 342PD. I bought a set of Crimson Trace 405's and they feel awful narrow. They carry very flat, but I miss the palm swell.

I was very surprised how much difference 4ozs make. Shooting 135gr +P though that 342 REALLY REALLY stings!!! (it weighs 2ozs less fully loaded than the 442 does empty). It is quite literally like you hold your palm out and someone whacks you in the middle of your palm with a bat. I can't imagine what shooting the 340 with full bore 357 would be like.

The 405 grips have rubber on the upper/back of the grip, but surprisingly, I don't feel any recoil coming up into the web of my hand....it is 100% in the center of my palm. I put 40 rounds down range and my palm was still sore/red the next day (but you are correct....when I can mentally block what is about to happen to my hand....impact is exactly where I am aiming (at 7yds).

I am starting to think I should go back to the factory grips so they fill my hand a little better, but I am wondering if the 105's are any thicker....

TIA and Congrats!
