Organizing a 3/4 deep sea fishing trip.

Anyone on here interested? I am going to book myself for Saturday 8/8/2010. The boat will be the Island Spirit out of Papa Hooks Sportfishing in Oxnard. We will be targeting Albacore Tuna and Yellowtail if the water warms up and White Seabass, Calico bass, Baracuda, Bonita pretty much anything the ocean has to offer that is biting. It is a open party boat so call there to make reservations.

http://www.islandspiritsportfishing.com/

Price is $65 Per Person $55 for military

They rent tackle all day for $8-$14 if you dont have your own gear.

I did not get enough interest to schedule an over nighter so I did this instead.

They give military discounts of 10%.

1 1/2 day boats out of San Diego are getting limits of albacore & Blue Fin Tuna @ 80 - 120 miles south of San Diego.

If the fish move up in your time frame they might be within range of an overnite trip from your departure point, but who knows.

Berth 55 is a good place. I have been on many trips out of tere and only once did the whole boat get skunked except for me which I caught 5 sand dabs on the bottom but the gave us all rain checks.

Organizing an overnight deep sea fishing trip

anyone on here interested? I will get prices for it as soon as I see if I get any interest. I would like to book it three weeks from now. I need 25 people for the limited load boat out of Newport landing. We will be targeting tuna and yellowtail and white seabass.Tuna/yellowtail, or yellowtail/seabass. Yellowtail are at the islands, or on the paddies offshore, tuna are offshore, Seabass are at the islands. Two species on an overnighter. If alba are in 1.5 day range, and are targeted seabass are out of the picture.

Both depart at 9pm the night before from Long beach Berth 55.

Let me know a weekend that suits a majority of people and I will schedule it but I must have half down up front to secure your spot with no refund.

the Albacore Tuna is within range of the 1.5 day right now. Newport Landing is NOT at Long Beach Berth 55, that's Long Beach Sportfishing.

What boat out of berth 55?? Liberty?

I've also made some calls to Freedom and Outrider out of 22nd. St. Landing, and also the Spectra out of Pierpoint if we can't get 25 to go the then other option would be a 6 or 10 pack boat.

professionalcoyotehunter
07-09-2010, 12:12 PM
Most of them are around the same price. I just really need 25 people to go. I dont underdstand though since they can accomodate 36 people. I guess there must only be 25 beds.

Ricky-Ray

Of the boat's that I've checked out I know the SeaHorse out of Dana Wharf can take a max of 26. Freedom outta 22nd St. Landing can take up to 40 on overnight's but they try to keep it around 30 just for everyone's comfort. Outrider will take 10 on overnight and Spectra willl take 6 on overnight.

I am keeping my eye on the fish counts right now and waiting for it to go wide open. i am thinking of heading out of Oxnard since there is less traffic that way and less people per boat and better rates.

It's the number that they calculate to make the trip worthwhile/profit. Charter boat can hold more

About checking report, I wouldn't rely on it as they sometime lie to get customer (number of fish caught is less than number reported)...

Best thing to do, find a website that will let you get the water temp (You want to fish around the 76-79 water temp). Ask the charter boat if they're heading toward the warm water..

P.S. With many years of fishing, I find tuna/yellowtail/dodo wide open around 76 degree water temp

professionalcoyotehunter

That is what I am waiting for. i know the captain on one boat personally so he does not give me BS on fish counts although I know for sure a lot of them do.

I am going to be putting half down up front for the boat so if there are any flakes on this I am going to be pretty upset since it will come out of my pocket. Plus I have to place a galley deposit.

well people need to get the confirmed details before you do this. ie we are not even sure when, where and total cost yet

it depends on the weekend I chose for rates but I wont know until the bite starts. It is pretty slow right now except for bass.

Scheduled a meet and greet for this Sunday. I will be there either way. I made reservations for 6 to hold the boat on my Credit Card. it will be an all day instead of an overnighter just to shake off the cob webs. If anyone is in SCV or on my way I would be more than willing to pick you up if you want to tag along. Rod rental is $8.

Had a great time. I landed 9 barracudas and lost many more. The White seabass were around also but I broke 2 off and my buddies with me lost 1 each also. The ones landed were huge and one of those won the overall jack pot. It was a beautiful day. The weather was perfect and not too hot. There were fish all over and we landed only 10% of the fish we hooked. It was wide open for surface so get out there. We did not take any pics although I wish we had since it was my buddies first deep sea trip. Hope to see you guys out there next time.

next trip will be on 8/8/2010.

in the report they dont say how many were lost or short and thrown back. there were 38 seabass landed but only 8 kept.

We are going to go around the Farallon Islands. Rock Cod, Ling Cod, and Halibut, and of course Stripers. The three way swivel set up on live Anchovies is the recommended setup is what they guy at Bay Tackle told me. That boat will have live Anchovies.

From Newport, Davey's Locker, we started fishing near pipeline, in between Huntington and Newport.. That was one of the fish we caught there.. Then we went to Huntington Flat. We were getting more hits around Huntington Flat and much bigger fish. We lost more than we landed

Have fun on the Native Sun. I use to fish on that boat. I liked it because of the round stern, no "corner hogs", but I really hated the 20-30 mins it takes just to get out of the harbor.

I wound up going to Redondo instead if I'm going on a 3/4 day trip, out of the harbor in less than 5 mins.

I will be going on the Native Sun tomorrow morning with my family.

seems like the Native sun has been all over the bass this week--no report for today, but they caught limits yesterday and limits on sunday, iirc. Seems like the local grounds are producing a lot more for the cattle boats than Catalina or even the Coronados.

I'm patiently waiting for the BF and YT bite to get hot at the Coronados. Seems like the Albacore are moving inland ever so slightly. the New lo-ann was all over them yesterday.
