There’s a very few posts you can go to with this MOS. You’re likely going to end up in either Mannheim Germany, Korea, Ft Leavenworth Kansas, or gitmo Cuba. There might be one or two posts I don’t know about. Basically your going to end up at somewhere with a prison.

Most of the 31E's I’ve talked to don’t really like this MOS and I believe promotions are slow as well.

If it was up to me I wouldn’t go 31E, but maybe you will enjoy it.

At this point in time all I can do is go into this with an open mind and make the best of things.

I wouldn't mind going to Germany at all, but its not where I want to go its where I'm told haha.

That was my very first MOS back when it was 95C Correctional Specialist. That was under Ronnie Reagan though.

The hardest part is being smarter than your boss and being an E4 or less.

Unless things have changed, you can still get out of your contract before you ship out for basic. Once you ship out thou that’s it.

If you want to be a 31E have you considered being a civilian prison guard? I know California is always hiring them.

Nothing is in stone until your second signing and swear in. Up until that point your free to completely change your mind, to included backing out

Yup, you can back out any time you wish.

Making a commitment doesnt mean anything anyways. I mean really, who keeps thier word anymore anyhow, thats for suckers!

That maybe so, but when 3-6 years of your life is on the line you need to look out for #1, aka yourself. After all, who would he be worried about impressing with his commitment? Some recruiters he will probably never see again?

I would rather have a happy soldier in this mans army then some guy whose pissed off all the time and hating life. Pissed off soldiers arenít productive. He's got to decide if being a 31E is going to make him that unproductive soldier or not, and he needs to decided it ASAP while he has this window of opportunity. Once the window is closed, thatís it, its not going to open again.

Im not one to have commitment issue's. if i say I'm going to do something its going to happen, whether or not it comes out looking pretty is another story:D.

i am aware that i can renegotiate my contract up until i ship out. i have spoken to quiet a few of my family/friends who are in or prior service and just about everyone has touched on the note of choosing the job for you(me).

I'm not joining to impress people, I'm joining for my wife/son, my self, and my country. to me a job is a job. in the end your going to walk away from it with whatever you have chosen to make of it.

thanks again for all of the info that you guys have put in.
