Have been shooting my AR platform with iron sights for some time, with corrective glasses for some time no problem @ 50 - 100 yrds.

Right eye is going bad, think I need a scope!

What should I be looking for?

Thank you for any info.

Nobody likes you.
Nobody likes me either.
So I guess we can hang out.
:cool2:

How old are you, how bad are your eyes, etc.

In general it becomes ever harder to focus on iron sights as you hit 45 and older due to natural hardening of the eye muscles.

Ghost ring rear peep sights work good for a while after notch rear sights become useless.

Scopes and red dot sights are the way to go whenever possible.

We need more info about what type of build it is and what you're doing with it to make suggestions. Home defense, plinking, competition, etc?

Just throwing this out there, what about an ACOG with a donut reticle?

I went to So. Bay Rod & Gun Club last Sat. Started on the 50 yd. range and moved up to 100 yd. range. No competition shooting just plinking away at the targets.

My AR's are flat tops with flip up front and rear sights.

Would like a scope that will get me out to 100 + yds.

Don't want to break the bank.

As far as my age..............breathing hard on 70.

I'm really liking the Weaver 1-3x. Inexpensive, made in Japan and a well-known brand name owned by an American company. Only comes with a duplex reticle but that's sufficient for plinking at the range. It's nothing fancy but it gets the job done! http://swfa.com/Weaver-1-3x20-Classic-V-Rifle-Scope-P2864.aspx

If you're going to 100-200+ yds, you might want to go for a scope with a magnification of at least 4. It'll be easier to visualize the target, if you can easily see it (trust me on that one, my eyes are getting old too)! Get a good scope with clear optics, maybe consider getting a used one here on CG.

NcStar 3-9x40 Compact, this is what I went with. For $45 I can't go to wrong for my first scope!
