The Brady folks are already making statements that we may win this battle but lose the war.

In the gun rights case, even gun control advocates said they expect the Supreme Court to strike down Chicago's 28-year-old handgun ban.

They said they also expect the court to extend its landmark 2008 ruling that individual Americans have a constitutional right to own guns to all the cities and states.

Dennis Henigan of the Brady Center to Prevent Gun Violence said the decision will be used by the gun lobby to challenge a myriad of state and local gun laws. "With few exceptions, these challenges will fail," he said.

A narrow ruling with broad interpretation, will assure he is right.

I probably wont sleep at all tonight. I am generally awake til 3 or 4 in the morning. Makes no sense to go to sleep for 2 hours just to wake up all groggy and not be able to figure out how to use my computer.

Monday is the last day of the Court's session. Four opinions remain to be released, and after that, the Justices are off for vacation until October.

It's one domino in a chain of dominos that must fall to make a difference. And the antis will still try to put up new anti laws as fast as we can take 'em down.

This fight will last longer than our lifetimes...

I'm making a CGF donation tonite as a good luck gesture. We need the money more than ever now to begin mounting the legal offensive and challenges.

I'll get a good night's sleep and then check into CG to see if by chance anyone has posted the result.

Jim,
Why not jump in on the action? You are not going to wake up Tuesday morning and expect every single law that infringes on the 2nd Amendment to magically be bashed down are you. It is going to take thousands of hours of work, hundreds of thousands of dollars of donations and and years of court cases bashing them down 1 by one.

Debate: McDonald v. Chicago
Expert analysis on the ruling's meaning and impact
Erin Miller | Sunday, June 27th, 2010 10:22 pm

In anticipation of tomorrow’s decision in the gun rights case McDonald v. Chicago, SCOTUSblog is setting up an expert debate on the issue. We have asked scholars and lawyers with expertise on either the Second Amendment or gun control laws to briefly analyze the opinion, with a focus on its implications for gun control and legal questions left open. These commentators come from both sides of the case, if they have taken sides at all. We expect to start getting submissions soon after the opinion is handed down, and we will post them as soon as we get them.

We are still reaching out to contributors and expect more by tomorrow. All the McDonald posts will be available together in a special section on the lower sidebar.

5 more hours until go time.
