I thought ganja was legal in california? :) I've heard it too from a friend and he said "drug charges" and since mary jane is still considered a drug, it would disqualify you of owning a firearm in california.

The federal law underlying the prohibition is 18 U.S.C. 922, which bars possession of guns by (among others) anyone “who is an unlawful user of or addicted to any controlled substance,” and bars transfers of guns to such people.

It's a federal law that is being used. It does not matter what california law says.

most cases you get only a ticket unless you have enough for intent to sell and that is usually a big ticket with community service

Only fools get convicted of simple possession of marijuana. Go to the 8 hour diversion class and the charge is dismissed. Unlike traffic school you can do it over and over. There is no reason to have a 11357(b) Conviction on your record even if you get caught smoking weed repeatedly.

Wow...that's a whole other can of "Constitutional Worms" that you open up, with regard to that debate.

Someone better change that "Monday night celebration" thread, and quick!
