I've been thinking of getting a .308 or 7.62 NATO rifle. Still doing some research, but I think I've narrowed it down to 3 choices. But, feel free to suggest others.

I wanted to get some opinions and comments on theses, especially if you have shot or used any of these.

1) FN SCAR 17s
2) LWRCi REPR
3) LMT LM308

I am leaning towards a piston gun because cleaning is easier since there is less fouling in the chamber and the POSSIBLE increased reliability of a piston weapon.

(I know that a DI weapon can be just as reliable with proper maintenance and cleaning, but I feel a piston weapon can go longer between rounds before cleaning and lubing is required and that is what is appealing to me)

FAL I just got a StG 58 kit, those are supposed to be the best.

I voted for the LMT. The price is alot less than the others and I have read nothing but great things on its accuracy (out of a 16" barrel too). Plus is has the quick barrel change feature to switch between barrel lengths AND calibers. And as far as reliability goes from the DI vs. a piston...the LMT beat out a gas piston rifle (HK417) recently to win the British Army's contract.

Cant go wrong with any of the 3 choices. Wish I had your "dilemma" :) Personally, I'd go for the SCAR 17S, just because. Haha. But like someone else suggested, if you want a good 308 battle rifle, the FAL is hard to beat. Its not called "the right arm of the free world" for nothing..

LMT for cost reasons.

AR-10 because they are awesome and can be built on a OLL for about $1000-1200.

Have you found a SCAR in .308 yet?

I've looked all over for one and could never find an FDE SCAR .308 BNIB and in stock, anywhere. I found a black one once, but the website it was on seemed suspiciously fake.

I want to vote SCAR, but I doubt you'll find one, so I'll vote for LMT.

No...have not been able to find a SCAR 17. LMT are looking like it won't be till late August / early September.

Only the REPR are easily available right now. Have anyone shot the newly fixed REPR. Did LWRCi fixed the problem correctly with the mag issue? Are they good to go now? Any other issues with the REPR?

Not really looking to put together a AR10....want a nice high end new .308 rifle :43:

I voted for the REPR, but you can also consider an M14-type rifle

LMT or build your own. Figure out what kind of barrel you want and the magazines you want to use and go from there.
