Ok, Well i got my wife the Ruger Mini-14 and she freaking loves it! I actually like it a lot myself :D.

So we are looking to get a nice scope for it. for shooting 100-300 yards. I don't know the first thing about scopes for rifles. So help me out. The only one i have seen so far that stuck out was the NIKON M-223 since it is set up for a .223 caliber rifle. What else is good out there?

I put a 4X on my mini14 and 30 and am happy with them. I used a bushnell as these are just fun guns for me. IF I were to plan to hunt(which I have better rifles for) with them I would use only a Leupold on them. IF I were to put a adjustable scope on them I would choose a 2X7 scope. I think you will find 300yards with a 223 especially in a mini14 is a bit far. They are a much better 200yard rifle. I found no handicap with a straight 4X scope.

They are fun rifles to shoot.

I think the Leupold Scout FX-11 series would be good.

although, my dad has an Aimpoint H-1 on an ultimak mount on his NRA edition and its very nice too.

I like a red dot, but used a 4x scope as well.

I put a Burris Timberline 3 to 9X on mine, has some sort of stadia lines on the lower post of the reticle. The Timberline is Burris's entry level line, works well for me. I put a 4X on my 99/44 which is basically a 44 Mag Mini 14. Both scopes are fairly short so they look right on the small gun.

Nikon is a good brand. Especially for the price I think it's just as good or IMO better then leo for half the price... But please dint start a Leo vs nikon thread I like both I just perfer nikon.

But for a mini....if it's accurate a 3-9 power would be just rite. I use it for moat if my rifles and they all work fine out to 400+ yards. but for a .223 it's perfect for 300.

I had a scope on my mini for a while, but I have found that I like it better without the scope.

a weaver 1x3 is a good option on a mini14.

I get decent results with a Weaver 1.5-5x32 Grand Slam on a mini and it looks nice too.

Check out the new Redfields (http://www.redfield.com/riflescopes/).
I just got a 3-9 x 40 for my mini 30. very clear, nice scope for $150.
These are not mine (http://www.perfectunion.com/vb/showthread.php?p=608955) but thats what it looks like (except mines a ranch)
The one in the 1st pic I believe is a 33mm & I'm not sure if the rings are higher to clear the Sight. The 40mm I have rides nice & low, close to the handguard with the stock (Med) Ruger rings.

I would suggest a 4x Leupold at reasonable price.

Redfield was purchased by Leupold and have always been a decent scope

Midway and Natchez have the refurb scopes like Nikon and others.
