View Full Version : Which would you rather have, Hk SL8 or Bushmaster ACR?

Why? I'm leaning more towards the SL8 at this point.

I hate the SL8 and the G36. They are cheap plastic crap.

The cheap plastic hk crap is also the most reliable. Based on the results of the xm8 tests, basically replasticed g36. Sl8 is great, but only 10 round mags. You need to cut upper receiver to get double stack mags.

When all else fails, look at the data.

Would be really cool if another trial could be performed with scar, acr and g36/xm8.

Anyways, I would lean towards acr. Although the sl8 is rock solid, the modularity of the acr is very intriguing.

I don't think you could go wrong with either.

Neither! I'd get a SCAR. I actually like all three guns. My only dislike about the SL8 is that it takes a LOT of effort to convert it to a G36 pattern, and the conversion is not for the faint of heart. At least you can get the ACR in a close to original pattern out of the box.

Easy choice: ACR.

You ever operate the mag lock on an SL8? Talk about a royal pain in the butt. Not that Raddlock didn't come up with an ingenious way to lock the mag but that the location and operation of the mag release itself is far less convenient than on an ACR.

There are other reasons too:

1) ACR with folding stock can be pinned to your specific length of pull. SL8's stock is fixed LOP--even with a pinned G36 folding stock, it's still fixed LOP.

2) ACR allows for various calibers.

3) ACR uses regular STANAG magazines, giving you access to >10rnd mags if you go featureless.

The one pro I can think of for the SL8 is the accuracy--it's got a really nice barrel on it. But you could always buy the upcoming ACR 18" heavy barrel and get your accuracy out of that.

Bushmaster ACR.

The SL8 is sorta awkward in design.

I've handled an SL8 and actually found it uncomfortable. Something about the thumbhole stock just doesn't work with my grip. I just never felt like I could get a good, positive grip. I ended up using it without thumbhole, basically like a featureless AR. I could be unique in this problem, I dunno. Converted to a traditional pistol grip (G36), it would be much more attractive.

I've also handled an ACR and liked it very much. I would recommend it for the ergos.

ACR due to design.

Two very different rifles: SL8 is more target rifle. ACR - combat carbine. How and what do you want to shoot?

I had an SL8 for a short while. It was unimpressive and it really only good for converting into a G36. I got to hold an ACR at a local gun store. That is a very nice rifle. I'd take the ACR definetly.

SL8 is just a sporterized G36, a G36 in less evil looking clothes.

The HK SL8 is an AWB abortion and should be avoided. Heavy, bad ergos, ugly, no threaded muzzle, horrible thumbhole stock, odd magazine etc etc etc.. Have you ever handled one or shot it?

I haven't tried the ACR so I cant comment first person there - but I am intrigued my its ergo features like the ambi slide lock/release.

If you're looking for a fancy piston rifle I'd say also try the FN SCAR - I've shot one and its very light, handles well and shoots nicely.

I still call it the Magpul Masada out of habit.

I think I'd go with the ACR.
