doesn't look like it's that big with the size of impact the .45 bullets make.

he has done it with Glock 27 in the past. It is doable if you have skills.

here is his range

hickock45 is an awsome shooter. he did the same 230yd shot with a glock 26. the guy is crazy good. i wish i had even a quarter of the range time he gets. im pretty sure thats his land too. much respect for him.

I've seen that video before but its entertaining seeing it again, Hickok45 also does the same feat with Glocks too, even in subcompact. Private range on his backyard, and plenty of ammo, hes living the shooter's dream, hes also youtube's #1 Zombie Hunter :p

I saw the thread title and immediately thought, "Hmm, 230 yards, sounds like Hickok45 is at it again!"

Man does that guy have skills! He's part of the reason I bought a GLOCK 27, not really in hopes of shooting anything that far away, but the knowledge that I can is just awesome.

I'm near sighted, even with glasses, about a hundred yards is as far as I can get without optics. But......I make it up with volume, lol.

230 yards is doable with a 45. The bullet drop is over 10 feet even if you have the gun sighted in for 50 yards.. probly more like about a 12 foot drop.

I was shooting a 45 at 400 yards and simply couldn't find even a mountain range to use as a sighting for lobbing em in.. 10-12 foot is doable.

If you are gonna shoot long range you need a revolver.

i can hit that no problem with my 500 magnum, but a semi auto at that range is just crazy haha

A great shooter and nice set of videos. I like NutNfancy a little more since there's more run-n-gun but Hickok is great too.

Ive seen an instructor at Front Sight hit a steel silhouette @ 400 yards with a Glock in .40 S&W. (one hit out of 5 shots) I wouldnt have thought it possible had I not seen it myself. Im sure he spent much time / ammo practicing that shot just so he could embarrass the students who couldnt hit the same target with a rifle =)

Yeah I've seen two guys doing a friendly competition at the range shooting their rugers at 250 yards... They were getting 7/10 hits.... Crazy! I'm not even close to hitting anything at 100 yards with pistols. Lol. I'm moh with my xd (minute of head)

That is some good shooting, but that is not a stock low dollar 1911. I tried to shoot my 1911 at 200 yards and couldn't get the bullets to reach the target. I guess it is possible, so now I will have to try again. So if I put a milk jug at 200 yards and use a box of ammo trying to hit it, does it still count if one bullet hits the target?

Can you throw a bowling ball through a standard range target?

Wasn't there a story of a guy shooting down a Japanese Zero with a 1911?

I think it was a pilot who bailed out and as the zero sighted him for a strafing run, he pulled out the 1911 and shot the pilot of the zero. I mean, Japanese vehicles at the time weren't that flimsy...

Wait actually.

Heck, I did something like that a few weeks ago up at the ranch with my 1911. Set up a target at 200 plus yards or so and started shooting it with my Charles Daly and MBI 230 gr FMJ remanufactured. I love that weapon!

I love his vids! If he can do it with a Glock I dont see why he wouldn't be able to hit it with a 1911!

it's the cartridge, not the gun that makes it harder...the drop of a .45ACP is a lot more than a 9mm at that range....we were shooting Sigs

a few years back were were holding a class at the Angeles range...we were at the upper range shooting across the canyon...and it was a lot harder to hit with the larger caliber. you actually are "lobbing" them in with a .45. the trick to hitting is to only raise your front sight...assuming you have a tall enough one

looking at the vid, i'm thinking his gong has got to be 3-4' in diameter

It takes a lot of practice to get there as well as a very accurate handgun for the 45. For 400+ yard precision shots i take out the Hi-Point.

marlin... you are correct in that you would not be "able to reach the target" at 200 yards with a 45...

The drop at 200 yards for a fixed sight semi auto 45 or even 40 is about 10 feet. holding up all the front sight will not get you on target.

Now think of this.. the man has a steel plate set up in his backyard at what is 230 yards... He has most likely shot thousands of rounds at it with dozens of firearms... He is not aiming at the target for the relatively weak semi auto rounds.. he has learned at what point on the tree behind it to aim at or the hill or the whatever so that he can compensate for the 10 foot drop.. He has also picked a range that is at the extreme of the 45 auto for practical.. Anyone can be taught to aim at a branch or junction in the tree behind the target 10 feet up that will put the round on target.. much skill and good eyesight is still required but that is how it is done.

After you shoot a bunch of handguns and ammo... you pretty much know where to aim for every power level of handgun.. not gonna be much different with a 6" 45 acp revolver say than a 3" compact semi.. You are talking the same 10 foot drop on a target 2' high.

As a bonus.. he will pretty much know where all those rounds shoot all the way out to the 230 yard target.

Move the target out to 400 and he has to start all over again since the drop is impossible to guess since the drop is now almost 40 feet. No way to see the target with the sights. You must have an aiming point behind and more or less in line with the target.

It is of course much easier with adjustable sight revolvers in magnum like loads.. it is easy, and practical to set the sights for a 100 yard zero.. rise at 50 yards will be only about 3 inches.

Hickock45 is the man. His videos are always positive, never negative; he just seems like an all-around good guy. Has a dry but hilarious sense of humor. Amazing shooter. Apparently he's also a respected school teacher.

Hickock is a very skilled shooter, but we all would be that way with seemingly unlimited time/ammo/money and our own personal range.

I can't find the video, but on the series 'Impossible Shots', Jerry Miculek hit a balloon at 300yd with a short barrel .38 special revolver...holding it upside down, and pulling the trigger with his pinky finger. I think his point of aim was something like 15' - 20' above the target.

I wish. My hands tend to shake. Doubt I could ever be as good as him.
