View Full Version : Other states view of our lowers?

I surf around on other gun boards just like many of us and I run across a couple different types of people. The first type will say "support our brothers and sisters in cali". The other type will say "F'm, they are talking away our lowers, upper and parts. they should have left years ago"

From what you all have read, where do you feel most of them stand on this issue. Are they for us or not?

Most of the folks I run into go, "Dude... that's lame that you have to go through all that to build one, THEN pin the mag!"

However, they're generally happy for us overall that we're able to get AR's again. I think that by and large, people realize that us buying everything we can does nothing but help the gun industry in the long term. And that once we're banned from acquiring more, they're going to get REALLY good prices on surplus product from the manufacturers who've ramped up their manufacturing to support us.

I would say that it depends on the individual ignorance level of the person you are talking to. Some hate us, some support us. I leave it to you to decide which are the smart ones. As a whole, I think they support us trying to change the gun laws here. They tend to hate the liberal socialist crowd, and we get lumped in with that group. Fortunately, ignorance is curable.

I chose the "forget them" option, however it is not completely correct.

Other states resent us, and this is my experience, not because we're taking the AR market by storm right now, but because we're a "socialist blue state" a "hellhole" that "should fall into the ocean" before it "infects the nation" with some political "disease."

If you had a third option of "Screw them, they get what they deserve for voting those *******s into office!" I'd vote for it.

Right. They do seem to think we're ALL gun-grabbers over here, and that anyone who isn't should abandon the state to the gun-grabbers. Usually you can insert some mindless rhetoric about how we clearly don't value our freedom, etc.

The more sensible ones tend to realize that as soon as CA has completely fallen, there'll be another state next in line. We're on the front lines, as it were, fighting against the liberals' national agenda to ban ALL guns in the USA. Some out-of-state folks understand that, most don't.

well, most of the people are simply pissed that we took all of the lowers that they wanted :P

A third option would be people that's still clueless about our little fight for freedom as I like to call it.
I send one of my lowers to an out of state custom shop to have some specific work done on the receiver and the poor guy thinks that my receiver is an AW. After a lot of explaining he finally understood what's going on here in CA but this is just a little example about how some people don't have an idea about our present situation.

I know the manufacturers and industry loves our little addiction. Here's some quotes from various manufacturers:

CMMG: "What is it with you guys? I've never seen people spend as much money on AR-15s as Californians do!"

Bushmaster: "Our sales have easily doubled since January! They [Californians] may have someone else's lower, but they want our parts on it!"

Del-Ton: "Every M-4 barrel in the country is being shipped to California, sorry they're just hard to find these days. Oh... you're in California too?"

People out of state are well aware of the madness :D!

All the out of state FFLs who've shipped lowers to us have my respect and gratitude. There are several who've pussed out on us and it is their loss for sure. They could've had a chance for easy money and they let it slip past their fingers.

I dont really care what other states think of us here in CA. To those that are rooting for us....I thank you.

For those that are mad at us for some idiotic reason....piss off!

Even the few dealers that did not want to ship dissassembled rifles directly to me had no problem knowing that the rifles were coming to California. If anything they were amused in a clueless sort of way. I don't hold anything against them, because they didn't freak out when I said I was in California, only that they were concerned with shipping complete rifles or receivers here.

A few companies absolutely love the fact they can ship receivers here. One company I bought an exotic off-list from, whom I will not name yet, lol, pretty much said 'F the DOJ... I'm honored to send you one of my receivers to California, it's an FFL to FFL transaction... screw them!"

Two gas piston guns down, one to go! ;)

Personally, I don't blame those dealers that won't do business here. California law is the most convoluted and inane hodgepodge of statutory confusion that most dealers can't understand and don't want to spend the hours necessary to learn them. As long as their attitude isn't hatred, I can't blame a business not wanting to risk it. I just move to the next dealer.

I have to agree, that I can understand why some dealers would not want to touch this state.

However, I have removed my state out of my Location field at ARF.com, because after a while it got tiring, being told to move out this state. Born and raised in CA, I guess it must be Stockholm syndrome...don't plan on leaving :) .

Paul over at arfcom has a great spiel along the lines of:

those who fight
those who support
those who run
those who tell the fighters to run

Hmm, got any links to it? It'd probably make for an interesting read, and I don't frequent arfcom.

I'm digging around for a thread, it's usually either in the California, or Political section of arfcom.

The bad thing is the hometown forum only goes on for 3 pages and threads get buried quick.

Paul does go into more detail and it usually serves the haters a nice mug of STFU.

Nice. Well, if he wants to, he's welcome to put it into a page on gunwiki. There was a cosmoline removal guide that a guy over on SKSboards kept pasting, and folks kept having to search for, but a wiki is a great way to give a home to a frequently-pasted block of text.

I get to travel a lot with my job to other states. Most people are sympathetic to our cause and understand what we are dealing with. Some stupid redneck that doesn't agree, well who cares let them think what they want. The big picture is trying to keep them from screwing us all.
