View Full Version : No firearms in L.A. city pawnshops

I'm new to gun ownership, and I'd heard pawn shops were good places to look for deals.

So I went to a pawnshop in Van Nuys recently looking for a good deal on a used handgun. I figured since the sign on the shop said "GUNS" they might have some.

But no luck, the guy behind the counter informed me no pawn shops in L.A. city deal in firearms anymore. Maybe this is old news, and I'm just the last one to find out

Anyway, now I'm wondering, is this just an L.A. city thing? Is the pawn shop option still available? Where?

yes, there are still pawnshops in CA that deal in guns. Not a lot, but they are out there. Compare 1900+ 01FFLs with around 75 02FFLs.

Crown City Loan in Pasadena has an 02FFL and there is one listed in LA.

20 years ago, a pawn shop could return a handgun from pawn with a 4473.

Add to that the requirement for DROS and 10 day wait + NICS and most FFL-02's don't want the hassle.

The roster probably has a negative effect also. If not redeemed from pawn, I don't think they can sell an unrostered handgun as it wouldn't be a PPT.

Usually I'm reluctant to share my "honey holes," but this one is pretty well known.

Mike Panikyan is the man to speak with about a gun. Haha :)

If you're ready to buy, make sure you have a Handgun Safety Card already. He's currently out of them as of last week. Turners Pasadena or Kings Gun Works in Burbank can hook you up on those.

Last year I bought a rifle from a pawn shop in West Hollywood. They were about to stop doing over-the-counter sales, and just selling on Gunbroker and online, because of the amount of extra paperwork involved doing in-store sales.

Guns represent a very small portion of the income for a pawn shop, but requires the most effort and paperwork. Over the years, pawn shops have just let their FFL02's expire.

Alamo in West Covina has a pretty good selection.

Once A Pawn A Time in Glendale is a great place to find some nice handguns. They even carry a decent selection of pistol ammo at pretty decent prices.....I got 50 American Eagle 230gr FMJ .45 GAP rounds for about $20.

To the OP.. I just noticed your city. Although not pawn shops there are a couple of local dealers who have C&R stuff. GunRunners in Duarte, who is an advertiser on CalGuns.net has some C&R; and Bain & Davis in San Gabriel often has C&Rs on consignment. Also, both are decent transfer dealers.

I've picked up some 1911s from both of them; and been very happy with them.

Hell yeah we do. The selection keeps growing, but the prices seem to say the same.:chris:
