Again sorry but I'm trying to learn this stuff. I am going to get an AR 15 here in California and I want to be perfectly legal. i am starting with a stripped lower and buying a kit. I will have a Bullet Button so it will be legal that way. I have 2 questions:

1) I've been told a threaded barrel is not legal and the flash hider/muzzle break must be permanently attached. Is this true?

2) Where can I find info on the different models of AR 15s? I would like to know the diferences between A1,A2,A3 and M4 models. Pictures would be excellent.

Thanks in advance for the help.

1) False. It only needs to be permanently attached if the barrel is less than 16 inches (14.5 barrel + permanent 1.5 flash hider = legal minimum of 16 inches).

2) Can't help too much, but A2 is sort of the quintessential M16 style. M4 is the military designation for the carbine version of the M16 rifle. My avatar is my carbine with a 16" barrel with a non-fixed flash hider, bullet button and A3 flat-top receiver (A2 has carry handle on it, I believe). My flash hider is an A2, but I will eventually put a Phantom on it. My front sight post is also A2, as opposed to BUIS (backup iron sights).
