Guys,

I'm looking for ways to improve my recoil on my 16" BMC Mid Length. I've heard that the PWS FSC556 is a comp and FS.

Has anyone tried this? Is it effective?

Do you have a better recommendation? I'd like to try and get some more control on the muzzle jumping without having to put some crazy soda can sized compensator which kills everyone else on the range.

How easy is it to change out the stock A2 FS on a BMC barrel?

Any special tools needed?

Thanks!

The PWS FSC556 is a great comp/fs - I'd say it is very effective! The old A2 FS should just unscrew with a basic wrench. Make sure the gun is unloaded, hold it between your legs with the barrel up and unscrew it. The PWS comes with a peel washer that you need to use in order to index it properly, but those are very easy to use (just takes a little patience.)

Go for it!

Are there any Comp/FS better than the FSC556 and yet still retain the original shape of the A2?

Not to be too pedantic here, but the shape of the original A2 FH is what defines its (un)effectiveness. It works fine as a FH, but not as a comp... so, what are you asking? Are you looking for a birdcage-style comp? If so, VLTOR makes one, but I've never shot a rifle with one attached - dead sexy though!

I have no first hand knowledge on this http://www.battlecomp.com/ but, from the videos, it seems to work well.

Yeah I see your question. I don't want one of those oddly (my opinion) comps that look like soda cans on its side. Yeah, I'm trying to maintain some 2nd type of cool over the cost of performance. I also don't want to exceeded $100. I saw something from Knights Armaments for like $400 and I nearly **** a brick.

Check the PWS website and look at the "TTO".http://primaryweapons.com/store/pc/viewPrd.asp?idproduct=88&idcategory=6
It is a very nice compensator without the flash-hider end of the 556. Only 1.5" long at .875" O.D.
Comps I've tried and won't use again are the Levang Linear Comp and the Miculek Brake.
Right now I'm using a SJC Titan comp which may be a little bigger than what you want.

Next to try are these tunable comps from AR15 Performance http://www.ar15performance.com/handguards__gas__blocks___tubes?b=1

Despite the small recoil of .223, a good comp/brake is nice on a target AR if you're not shooting a bull barrel.

And don't sweat the added noise! It's a gun, they're usually loud. ;)

I have 2 of these FSC556. They work pretty good , but if you are shooting with anyone next to you, they are going to hate you.

It has a lot of the pressure coming out of the sides and so its going to go to the people next to you..

You can also get this one...I hear its pretty effective..Just watch the Magpul videos..

I have one on my 16" BCM middy. I had the barrel where the front sight is, wrapped it in a rug and placed it in a small vise, and easily removed the stock FH with a regular open wrench. The FSC556 works as advertised.

There is a cheaper version from Reiner arms, you might want to look into it.
I have one also but have not tried it yet.

The PWS FSC556 and Surefire muzzle devices are probably the best. If you want something small, like someone else suggested, look at the PWS TTO. Any muzzle brake will increase the noise, so your range neighbors will definitely be giving you the look :)
