I live in southern California in the heart of orange county now i have heard of people raving about how they go shooting at the desert putting up targets and what not...

How does that work? and where is it legal to just go and shoot?

We joined Burro canyon as a member. On the weekends I think you have to reserve a private area/range to shoot. We always go on the weekdays and always have a private area/range available to shoot. You don't have to be a member to shoot there on the weekend, but from what I hear ... GOOD LUCK !!!

There is also the West End Gun Club, where members can shoot 24/7. They are a non-public range.

I don't know where to shoot in the desert/mountain. The places I mentioned are just like the desert ... You bring your own targets.

rahagee's... I shot their about two weeks ago and they have a 100 yard rifle range and you can shoot ANY type of ammo....

Bring your own targets...

They also have a pistol and shotgun range... 24 clay stations.

A BIG PLUS!!! NO Attitudes AT ALL! This was the most pleasant experience I have ever had at a rifle range.... for gun shop to range officer... I was VERY impresses and always felt welcomed.

I'm posting this a little late but whattheheck. I emailed the BLM in Palm Springs last month and attached the response, there's a couple of places out there. You can make your own targets and target stand on the cheap by following the instructions that YouTuber - Safe Arms Review gives...

Target Stand

Targets

I got a roll of 36" by 150' of paper from amazon for $15.99 with free shipping

couple of cans of cheap spray paint and you'll save anywhere from a buck to a buck fifty per target by making them yourself and the cool thing about it, the bullets go right through them just like the overpriced targets lol

AFAIK, you cannot shoot at night at Westend. Westend allows over night camping.

No one likes to tell anyone in an open forum where to shoot on BLM land because they are concerned about you picking up after yourself and getting that area shut down like the rest have been.

Why don't you come out in 2 weekends and join a bunch of us at Burro Canyon for the Turkey Shoot Sunday November 7th. Here's the thread about it.

ABSOLUTLEY! True. Grab a couple of buddies, go N on the 15 to Barstow. Stopby BLM office on Barstow Rd. Tell them your desire to target shoot. They'll give you a couple of spots they like to send shooters. While there BUY MAPS! Enjoy some plinking courtesy of BLM. Next trip out.... camp & shoot and explore, new areas. Lots of fun, lots to see!

+1 on what Fin said! I live in Barstow and theres plenty of hill sides and box canyons to shoot against. The skies the limit out here. Im attaching a map of the designated BLM shooting areas out this way. Remember, anything south of Hodge Rd. is shotgun only.
