Ill be hunting D13 on my second tag most likely...good luck to you at D13. I love the higher altitude possibilities later in the year.

Oh Baby!!! G3 for me. I still cannot believe it as I type this.

2010 is going down in my own record books as the year for draws. Earlier this year, my son and I got notified of drawing 2 of 5 NR tags for a premier moose hunt in AK for Sept. Then we each pulled premium UT deer tags for Oct,,,, then the kid pulls down a once in a lifetime, any bull elk permit that occures prior to opening general rifle in UT (jr hunt). Next came two tags for MT elk/deer and now what I consider the motherload for CA deer hunts -- the Goodale hunt!

How many points did you have?

1 Why? I applied last year and was not drawn.

P.S.

Just kidding... I was in a hunting party and all of us had 3-4 points.

The second biggest expense for these hunts is already paid with that being the tag fees. The real big expense (and really only expense now) is the fuel bill. It will be big, especially with the AK trip.

I will not be recieving a draw tag this year! I did not waste my time trying. Kali sucks guy's try another good producing state that cares about their wildlife management and you will be hooked. sleeper states like Oregon and Washington or skip on over to Idaho. For those of you that did get tags good luck and have fun!

Ok, now I'm confused...

I originally put in for a point, and got a second tag for Zone A. Thought I was all set. In the mail today, I got a letter from DFG telling me I was unsuccessful for the premium first tag drawing, and offers a chance for a second chance in some unfilled A and D zones.

What gives?

Effective this year, there is no refund for unfilled applications. So your first application got you a point for next year's drawings, but it is still valid for getting any remaining tags. Since you are not going to get a refund, you might as well use if for another tag. Maybe another A tag? Never hurts to have two.

Toby,
Thanks. It has been a long time since I set foot in X9B zone and I have never had a chance to hunt the Goodale hunt before. So if you have any insight you don't mind sharing, I am always open to listen to it. If I can do the same in return for you, I most certainly will.

Cool, thanks. Makes sense now, just wondered if I had made a mistake originally. This is my first year putting in the apps for tags. I don't think I'll have time to go this season, but the price is right for an unfilled tag. Hopefully I'll get a chance to pig hunt during the deer season and luck across something.

BTW, saw a nice big buck a couple blocks from my house the other night. At the local community college, next to the road. He looked pretty healthy from all the neighbors flowers... ;-)

Wait.... so... let's say I am tired of going every year and never getting a deer because the zone near my house has a 3% fill ratio and I decide I only want to hunt the special zones (X9A, X9B, et cetera) I have to apply every year without a refund and hope I get picked?

We only had 1.6 pt when we got drawn this year because we applied as a group.... Last year we didn't get drawn with like .6 pts....so you will have 1 pt next year, so you may get drawn (hard to say).

you really can't put to much weight in the "filled tag" %. Not everyone sends in their report card, so the #s can be a bit skewed. Plus, even at 3%, that's a 3% better chance than sitting on the couch. But, then again, I'm of the mindset that anytime out on a hillside with my rifle/bow and a deer tag, is a better time than I can have doing pretty much anything else.
