I dont know much about 45-70 model rifles and I have this old barrel in my collection that reads "Sturm Ruger and Co. Inc., Southport, Conn. USA" Just before mid barrel and "45-70 Govt. right before the threads. It measures 22" long. Here are some pictures.

Here is a link to the only pics of Sturm Ruger 45-70 rifles I can find, its called the Ruger number one. It does not look like a match to me. Any ideas?

More than likely, a Ruger #3. They made the 45-70 in both the #1 and #3. the #3 being a somewhat cheaper rifle.

I don't know the timelines of #1 and #3 production, but that barrel is pre-warning so that puts it squarely pre-71 or 73 when they started roll marking that warning on everything they sold.

Ruger No. 1 - 1967 to present

Ruger No. 3 - 1973 to 1986

Ruger No. 3 - 1973 to 1986

Then there's a real good chance that is a #1 barrel as it does not have the rollmark.
Do you know what year all ruger guns started getting the lawyer rollmark?

All guns made by Ruger since 1977 have the "Warning" stamp.

Looks like a No. 3. The No. 1 would have a fancy banded front ramp and a quarter rib with no dovetail for the rear sight.

I found this on the Ruger forum.

"As previously noted, some .45-70 1H's exist, but you could count all of them on your fingers and one foot. They were made in 1976(about) and would be considered quite rare. "

And there's a guy there posting as Ruger1nut who might be interested in it if you want to sell it. He has a wish list.
