Okay, i looked, and didn't see that this was posted, so apologies in advanced if it already has been. Anyways, my Dad calls & informs me that the Union Tribune did an article on the pros & cons of Open Carry. Don't have a copy of the paper, but did read it on Signonsandiego.com, at these links:

Pro:
http://www.signonsandiego.com/news/2010/jun/20/pro-open-carry-weapons-form-protest/

Con:
http://www.signonsandiego.com/news/2010/jun/20/open-carry-provokes-doesnt-protect/

The con piece was of course written by Susan Taylor, who's the president of the San Diego chapter of the Brady Bunch. The pro piece was written by Gerald Reaster.

Reaster's response is half-assed and Taylor's response is only slightly worse than Reaster's.

What a friggin joke.

Reaster's best quote; "I cannot speak for other groups..."

That itself is possibly the best thing for us, as Reaster doesnt have a very good grasp of why most people open carry or the long history (much more than five years) of the erosion of constitutional rights in California.

The problem with characterizing open handgun carry as a form of protest is that it trivializes its intended use as a self-defense tool and makes handgun carry 'abormal' in the sense that they only do it to make a point rather than a regular daily action like putting on your shoes or using your seatbelt.

What sucks about this is that I was asked to write this same op/ed piece. By the time I found out about it and responded, Reaster had already accepted the offer. Lame.

Sometimes papers will accept editorials on editorials... check with sosdnews@uniontrib.com and see if they want RCC's position.
