I had a yugo in a crappy tapco stock with no bayonet.
I managed to get my hands on an M59 halfway decent stock thats been cleaned up and varnished.
I added a scout scope mount that replaces the rear sight from scoutscopes.com
Its been topped with a 4x pistol scope from Nikon.
I'm really liking this setup for hogs

heres a close up of the scope mount, its rock solid, probably the best mount for an SKS without drill and tapping.

I've got a muzzle brake from ricksmuzzlebreaks.com coming in on monday or so, until then thats a thread protector from a VZ58

Have you shot it? It looks like the shells might hit the scope on ejection.

I'm wondering the same thing...
Looks nice though.

Looks pretty good, scope mount is not that well designed. I don't care what anyone says, you got to clean the gas tube and the piston. It's not AK.

With the scout scope, it doesn't look like you could use stripper clips - I assume you have to load one at a time?

Well I have to say those are fun rifles.
I don't think the ejection of the cartridge case will hit the scope on that setup. My 2 Yugo M59's eject the empties sideways as opposed to straight up like the Chinese SKS's.

Question is can you get the Gas tube off with that mount?

the rail comes off the mount to allow the gas tube to be removed.
When I put the rail back on my POI drifts by at most 2 MOA.
2 MOA ain't so bad for an SKS

Not to mention you can Adjust the Scope knobs a few clicks and overcome.

I have one of those mounts, they loosen up, even with lock tight. I had a Bushnell Holo sight (early version of the EO Tech "N" type battery) because the 4X scope was beat to hell from shells hitting it.

Was it on a Yugo SKS? Just wondering.
Yeah the com bloc rifles are the ugly step children of scope mounting. I prefer a side rail.

No it was a Yugo 59/66, there is no Yugo "SKS".

Yes the side rails are a much better option for optics.

Boy you guys are sticklers for detail clarity. A good thing actually.
I should have said My Zastava pattern M59's. :)

people are a stickler for this particular detail as they believe legally that as long as it does not say SKS on the rifle, they can run it with a detachable magazine.
Seems a bit too close to the edge for me personally, but others seem to be OK doing this.

I have to say, nice looking SKS! Yep, I called it an SKS. I have a Yugo myself and I was thinking about swapping it back to the wood stock also. Then I saw that bull pup kit that someone posted about on here and I am definitely going with that when they are available. Still wouldn't mind picking up another wood stocked SKS though.

When you take the rail on and off so many times, eventually you would strip the threads or they would loosen up and would just unscrew on their own even with thread lock.

This is what I did with similar mount, mine was by Millet.
With the Dremel tool, I cut the rail on the side and front so I could take off gas tube without removing the mount.
You can use quick release scope rings or QD base to take the scope on/off.

Mine is a cheap red dot here. But you can use one of those short EER scopes.
I can take the gas tube out without removing the mount.
