Last evening we I attended my niece's high school graduation.
I was surprised to see the color guard carrying M14. I was able to zoom in and take a few pictures

Happy button

One rifle had a repaired cracked stock, the metal in all of them appeared to be brand new although the stocks showed quite a few dings.

Patriotism isn't dead, we arrived early and the band started to rehearse the Star Bangled Banner, most of the audience automaticaly stood up :)

How are they supposed to guard the flag with no magazines?

Nice shots by the way!

hey are jarheads, devildogs, or leathernecks, and MARINES they don't need magazines, ammo or rifles to guard the flag

Really dumb question here, but sometimes I'm a dumb person. I always thought the Marines carried an M1 Garand during those things. Like in the commercials and stuff. Was I just noticing wrong or do they do both the Garand and the M14?

you might be referring to the Drill Teams. they still use the Garrand because they fly and twirl better when thrown

That's interesting. I wonder if Garand knew he was making a good twirling rifle. Thanks for the info.

Thanks. Those M14 are weapons of mass destruction. Heaven help us:

A Marine operator
Full automatic capability
Detachable magazine
Flash suppressor, and.... Oh I can barely stand it....

A bayonet lug!!

I was My Batallion Color Sgt. for a short period of time.My riflemen used their M16A2 killing machines. But they were PFC's not Sgt's.I carried the National Colors and a Cpl. carried the Organizational Colors.
We never did a HS grad, but a lot of retirement parades such.
