My house backs up to the forest and every year I have at least 4 rabbits in my back yard daily (eating my grass and grape leaves) starting from about april as little bunnys and now I have three mid size. as they grow each year to mature (late july) and they are gone. I know the coyotes eat them and the cycle repeates and now it's my turn as they are cotton tails and feeding on good stuff so I know they will taste good!!! Pellet gun here we come!
I am tired of feeding the coyotes when I should enjoy them.

i gotta start using my pellet gun for wabbit... the 12 gage with light bird load was too easy last season

What kind of pellet gun are you using? Looking into getting one for pests around my place.

I love huntin wabbits! 12 gauge is fun, but it is pretty easy. I use a break barrel 1000 fps .177 pellet rifle, I think it's a gamo, not sure though. If you hit them in there neck, or vitals area they usually do a backflip and kick around on the ground for a couple of seconds. I've found a second follow up is almost always required. I think a 1200 fps would be way better. I usually get most kills from 30 feet away or less, after that the velocity drops pretty quick.

I usually go on private property so anything goes, my friend put a 3 inch deer slug in my remmy 870 last year without me knowing it, that was funny, couldn't really find the rabbit though... :)

radio2,

If you need any extra rabbits for your pot, let me know. I've got some that are ruining my wife's little garden area. I'm just to lazy to wait for them all night long. They only seem to be around after dark.

I won't ever think of hunting a rabbit again and here's why

Went to Camp Cady and got two on Sunday. Made a stew. Never had rabbit before. The meat was good, stew wasn't what I thought it would be. Had a tomato base and it was just too acidic and bitter. Anyone know of any other stews or rabbit recipes not based on tomato?

Is an AR 15 legal to use to hunt rabbits? I read the CA hunting law on method of take and it did not say Centerfire rifles. It said Firearm rifles.

I am positive you can hunt them with an AR/.223. Hell you can hunt them with a 30-06 if you want. If you're looking to eat those rabbits though, I'd suggest against an AR/.223 http://photos-b.ak.fbcdn.net/photos-ak-sf2p/v329/68/28/1264315897/n1264315897_30096746_3762.jpg

That's a .223 FMJ to a rabbit. Search for the carnage thread here and you'll find tons of rabbits who met a .223. Practically nothing left to eat.

Shotgun with birdshot or rimfire work the best for meat purposses.

I didn't know rabbits came in the sexy Thai...or maybe Filipina variety, but this makes me think I've been wasting years on whitetail when I could have been out chasing something that much more appealing! My only question is...does it taste like chicken? Ha-Ha.

I have a break barrel 1000 fps pellet rifle that owns em. Trick is to hit em in the neck of upper body and they'll do a backflip and the funky chicken dance on the ground...

Hey, I did a search for Sajedene...trying to find out where she was discussing her nation of origin, and this post popped up. Is this Sajedene? Wow. Sorry for my earlier comments!! Saj is an intellectual in the posts I have read from her...leading me to think of her as looking Madaleine Albright-esque! Is there a smile icon for a tip of the hat?

You need to get a Hunter Safety Card prior to getting your license unless you have had a license in the past.

You don't even need a nice rifle. I take a 50 year old .410 single shot and a 25 year old .22lr semi that I bought 20 years ago for $40.
