Hi All,

Just doing my research, would you choose a used TRP for around $1100-$1300 (the avg amount they're going for on the Private Sales correct? Please correct me if I'm wrong) or a used HK45c for $1500?

I guess at the $1500 price point, I can throw in the Les Baers, Wilson, Nighthawks used too correct?

I understand that the HK45c is off roster etc etc... thus having a higher price... but is it worth that higher price JUST because it's off roster? Or is the TRP or other 1911's more bang for the buck at that price point?

50/50 HD & range use.

I currently have a Sig P226 .40 that I love.

I'm planning on going to On Target soon to shoot that Wilson CQB that they have for rent.

Any input will be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Ruddogg,

I wouldn't pay $1,500 for something that is worth around $1,000 even if it's off roster ESPECIALLY if it is used. You can probably find a Les Baer Thunder Ranch 1911 for $1,600 if you look hard. I know at one of the gun stores here in Sacramento they had one for about $1,550 and it was new.

As far as a Wilson, or a Nighthawk I am not sure if you can even touch one for under $2,100 even used. There may be some floating out there though that you may find, but those guns generally hold their value.

It sounds like you are more interested in getting a 1911 than an HK seeing as how you will be shooting a Wilson Combat CQB, once you do it you will want it... beware . I got the opportunity to shoot an HK a couple months ago and I have no complaints about the gun. Would I pay $1,500 for it? Absolutely not.

thanks... that's what I was leaning towards... $1500 for an HK...when there are prob nicer more bang for the buck guns out there...

You're getting jacked solely because it's off-roster. The HK45 is really sweet, but not $1600 sweet. I don't know that any handgun is really worth that much coin, to be honest. I don't know that the extra $1000 spent on any gun over a $600-$700 model will really improve your accuracy that much. Spend the extra coin on a class, ammo, and practice.

If you're experienced enough with pistols that you think the money will make that much difference, than go for it....but nothing more irritating that seeing a $2000 handgun with a guy that can't make paper at 30 yds! :p (unless that money's no object, then go for it.)

Any guns shops in Sacramento carrying TRPs? I know Cordova Shooting Center has some Milspecs and GIs.

The only one I know of is River City Gun Exchange, but theirs are expensive.

I believe if you want the HK45c get it. !500 is a bit high, I got mine for $1300. This is a sweet shooter and the felt recoil is less than my Wilson Full size KZ45.

Save up a few hundred more and get a Nighthawk, seen a GRP go for as little as $1800ish on here and there's a few i saw the other day in the low 2ks with OBO. Find the right seller and you can score

HK45 if for home defense. Never buy a 1911 for home defense unless you're going to completely dedicate yourself to the 1911 trigger platform. You'll forget to flip the safety off in a high stress situation unless you practice your brains out.
