Hadn't heard anything about this Commonwealth Club, who/what are they?

Seemed high profile with the bill sponsor there.

I like the guy at the end. "I'm a 2A guy." "Would you ever open carry?" "Oh no there's no need for that." (Nice sound byte, guy should have hit them on CCW.)

http://www.commonwealthclub.org/about/

The Commonwealth Club of California is the nation's oldest and largest public affairs forum, bringing together its more than 18,000 members for over 400 annual events on topics ranging across politics, culture, society and the economy.

Founded in 1903, The Commonwealth Club has played host to a diverse and distinctive array of speakers, from Teddy Roosevelt in 1911 to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, actor Alec Baldwin and author Christopher Hitchens in recent years. Martin Luther King, Ronald Reagan, Bill Clinton and Bill Gates have all given landmark speeches at The Club.

The comment by Assemblywoman Saldana is rather telling...

"... and what I see from a lot of the open carry groups is a real mistrust of law enforcement."

At risk of starting a poop storm, in some cases I think that does exist. I see it in these pages quite often. And that is going to be the cudgel that beats OC into the ground, I fear.

:D

Saldana now has an ARMED security detail not because she has received any threats but because she wrote an anti-self defense bill? :rofl2:

"Let them eat cake carry pepper spray" She gets a gun toting security guard? But the people get "911 - please hold the line and your call will be answered in the order it was received...".

I wonder if they're CHP and how much it's costing the state?

I saw the segment last night, and thought it was more fair & balanced than average (Yeah, they are a Fox affiliate). My favorite part of the segment was when they pointed out that Saldana was riding around with an "armed guard". They pointed it out in a way that made her seem as if she was more self serving. I say good for KTVU, and this is why I like them, but I also like watching Julie & Heather & Claudine & .... & .... ;)

Seriously, it was a good story, but it won't stop the Senate from approving this bill.

I would however, like to have seen them interview someone from CGF on this issue (someone like Bwiese or Gene). It would be nice to get actual legal perspective on the issues, since they could point out that the State Constitution does not have a RTKBA in it, and that once McDonald is released, ALL the states would have to recognize the RTKBA, and that no state can just "ban" all forms of carry.

Erik.

"... and what I see from a lot of the open carry groups is a real mistrust of law enforcement."

Damn straight, when law enforcement has had opportunity after opportunity to obey their oaths to support the Constitution, and much of the time, took a giant steaming dump all over it (not just the 2A, incorporated rights as well).

Trust is earned, and it cannot be if criminals hiding behind badges are allowed to roam free with impunity.

I just saw a piece on 5 @noon, let me tell you the open carry guy looked like an *** when the old mid to late 60's man replied to his robbery question.

That was the wrong way to go. People need to say " do you think this place would get robbed with us here" not " I would be here to defend if it did get robbed" The 1st line would give them no real postion to have someone look bad.

When a mid to late 60's white male, tells a open carry on TV you scare me and I dont care if theplace is getting robbed. Well... Thats votes. And most people will take away that that guy must have been in a war in his life. And well he thinks its a danger!

To my knowledge, there wasnt anyone openly carrying anything other than a holster at this event. (Though there were armed individuals present.)

What harms gun owners is the impression that we are not responsibile or safe enough to keep, carry, or use a firearm... not whether it is visable or not.

And magically, her armed security escort was not creating more danger than he was preventing. Just as magically, that model of safety cost/benefit ratio for armed protection is only true for politicians, public figures, and those with a lot of money. Ok, I get it.

What many of you fail to realize is that it's all paid propaganda. Calguns need to start having expert panels and contribute to political campaigns to be taken seriously. Or mumble and fume in blogosphere and nobody hears you. Maybe it's time we start actually doing something instead of hiding behind computer screens hoping another side will see and hear our point of view. Other option is to soon become irrelevant posting site.

The 2A is great just as long as there are no guns.

What you have to understand is who owns the media and what is their agenda.

Not certain what they were. The one tool I talked with flashed his badge at me but I was too tired to even care what his deal was.

I thought the open carry movement was a protest against our inability or disenfranchisement to conceal carry. If CCW was allowed, then open carry would be no problem.

We are allowed to keep arms but not bear them? WTF? Saldana does not understand... And she is imposing her will on the rest of California. What a hypocrite with her armed guard and all. Unbelievable!

Since being denied in SD county 16 yrs ago I 've asked everyone I meet who has CCW "what the flip"? What is their story and taken names and notes. In 2005 I apply with heavy cause and documentation and they wanted me to go away and actually ask that I recind my application. I persevere and it takes 10 months and much bull. I am firm in my resolve and tell them about "due process" and the people I know who have CCW. 6 months ago I am denied reissue and when Michel represents. They SD licensing dept handed over a CCW 2nd renewal today. At this time I am planing my stratagy for 2 yrs from now. It is not Janet Reno's job or Obama's job to defend you (well I guess it really is), but they don't care about you or your coffee clutch meets and noone else does if you don't. Continue to point your fingers in the air but stop carrying unloaded guns. This gun stuff is some social type recreation deal. molon labe

Wow, a lot of non sequiters and red herrings from the Brady broad and that witch Saldana. They really really need to do some research and know who they're talking to before spouting their trash.

The interview I saw. Had used footage that HAD open carried hand guns holstered.
They even zoomed in on them. Now it looked to be from the same day same event even the same guy wearing the same thing.

But you never know as they have been to many events and have lots of vid that can be edited in to make what ever point they are trying to make.

Point is.... I thought open carry had stopped. I also think that this site and its users will get no place until we start using and backing our own when it comes time to vote.
Members: 53,542, Active Members: 15,103 Thats some votes if we could start using them in a effort.

I am also not sure as to why people do not let crap die down. A small thing that pops up in the news can sway someones thoughts. Now do you want that to happen with all these important court cases going? what if your actions were enough to sway a judge to rule against us. We already have some law makers doing so. Lets not piss off everyone.
