I am thinking about picking up a RIA 1911, but I am pretty confused on which models are CA legal. Checking out the roster, there are numerous RIA 1911's on the list, except that the models listed on Armscor's website and the ones on the list don't match up. As a matter of fact, none of the 1911's listed on Armscor's Philippines website matches the ones of the CA DOJ list word for word. For example, what's a RIA 1911? Is that a generic term for all of RIA's 1911's?

Here's one (http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=173796043) model in particular I was looking at it. I don't know if it's a M1911A1/Steel, RIA 1911, or 1911 A-1 FS or the like. Can someone please tell me if this one is CA legal?

My suggestion would be to spurge on the tactical model. the thin blade GI sights are not the best in the world. But either way awesome shooters.

I got mine from this guy. Use the buy it now for free shipping. He doesn't have any GI's listed right now but check in a day or two and he should. The Sarcoinc prices are better untill you add the $60+ shipping cost for hand guns.

I am having the same issue as the OP. I am interested in getting a full size RIA Tactical in the matte nickel finish but can't determine if it is on the roster or not. This gun. (http://www.centerfiresystems.com/AC-RI1911TAC-NP.aspx)

Thanks.

I think it is. There is a M1911 tactical listed on the CA DOJ list.

If you buy it... You will LOVE your "Rock" !!! You might buy more. I plan on a third one for myself. Two ain't enough.

My two slightly "tricked out" RIA Tacticals. Match Barrel Bushings, Match Triggers, new grips, 18.5+ recoil springs, Checkered MSH & Tactical Righty Safety (on the black one), & new Brownell's Gun-Kote refinish for both pistols (done myself at home).

Just love how the EGW Bushings are about flush with the barrels:

And if you're looking for a no nonsense and good to deal with kind of guy on GB to buy your Rocks, Phil at Bellshireguns in Tennessee is the way to go.

I bought my black pistol you see from him. The other one was from a local (Northern Cali) gun shop. If I had known it was cheaper to buy out of state I would've bought my first from him as well.

You just choose "buy now" and he ships it free, plus he's got TONS of ads up on GB. Everything from compact size Tacticals (RIA), to mid-size (4-inch barrel) GI's, to full size Tacticals in Parkerized or Duracoat finish.

Here's the gun you're looking at the good ol' GI .45acp from Bellshire:

By the way I don't work for him, im out here in Cali and I don't know a single soul in Tennessee. I'm just a satisfied customer, you can always buy elsewhere if u feel, I'm just suggesting to a fellow (potential) 1911er' a good route to go thru.

What's the difference between the parkerized and duracoat finish? Does one hold up to wear & scratches better than the other?

If you look at my pictures, the two tone pistol has its original parkerized slide. Duracoat is a matte black more like the black gun-kote that you see on my black and wood pistol. But Gun-Kote is so much stronger, Duracoat isn't so "Dura" - ble. I wasn't impressed with it at least. I'd just go for a Parkerized pistol and start from there.

You didn't mention caliber or barrel length, so I assume that you're looking for a 5-inch .45ACP. Turner's is running the RIA GI model on sale this week. Made in the P/I. Pretty good model for use as the basis of a 1911 project. Rock Island also has a couple of 1911's in .38 Super on the CA DOJ list.

I just fondled a Rock Island in 45acp at Metco in Fairfield and the tag says $459. It has a very nice fit with just a slight side-to-side slide play. The barrel locks really good at the hood and lugs, bushing is also nicely fitted. Trigger is has a better break than my stock Colt commander. I had $450 in my pocket too, but I've already talked to someone about buying his TC Contender. If I sell my other handgun I'm really tempted to go back and get it.

we need to write emails to armscor and get them to send a 1911-9mm to roster testing!

Did that months ago, the reply directly from the P.I. is, "it's up to the distributors in the USA to get the handguns approved for sale". So you need to put the heat on the USA Rock Island Armory distributors. Good luck with that, if they haven't figured out there is a demand for the 9mm 1911A1 in Kalifornia they must have thier head in the sand OR someplace else the sun don't shine.:D

What is the best on line dealer to get the RIA compact?

I was thinking of ordering and having it sent to Ammo Bros in Cerritos.

Seriously? You bump two 4 year old threads to ask the same question?
