View Full Version : 9mm Luger Winchester Ranger 147 gr. SXT T-series

I read somewhere that using for home defense the same ammo as your home police dept might help some in court if you ever have a home defense shooting. So I went to my local police dept, and they shoot 40SW Ranger SXT, so I am planning on getting that for the 40SW gun I have, but I also have a 9mm and a 45ACP.
I can only find 9mm Luger Winchester Ranger 147 gr. SXT T-series for sale in Ranger SXT 9mm, however I have also read that 147 gr. 9mm was a failed experiment and to avoid it and stick to 115 and 124 gr.
does anyone know if there is such a thing as a 115 Ranger SXT, if so where to get it.
Plus would love to get any feedback on the 147 gr. as an option for home defense.
Still trying to see what there is out there for 45 ACP in Ranger SXT,

make sure to run a few boxes through your gun. you want to make sure those rounds dont snag or jam on you too much. I would say shot 100 rounds and keep 50 in your home.

Always go heavy. I have 147 gr JHP federals for HD. My Beretta loves 'em.

that site seems to show that bullet wieght is not as important as having a top quality self defence load, whether 115 or 147 gr. of course the first and most important factor is shot placement.

the 9mm offering in the Ranger SXT line for LE is the 127gr +P+. that is what i have loaded in most of my 9mms...either that of the 124gr +p Gold Dot...i'd never liked how the heavier 9mm bullets shot in my Sig 226 or Glock G19, so i try to stay with the middle-weights.
the .45ACP Ranger SXT offering is the 230gr

There's nothing failed about 147 grain 9mm. It performs phenomenally and offers a bit more penetration over 124 grains. It also has good recoil characteristics. A shove vs. a snap. Winchester Ranger Talon (non bonded) and Federal HST are my choices for HD rounds.

Winchester Ranger ammo is not all the same. Stick with Ranger T-Series.
Also, T-Series is SXT, but not all SXT is T-Series. There is a "civilian" (non-talon) SXT with 8 petals — T-Series (talon) SXT has 6 petals.
147gr, 127gr+P+, and 124gr+P T-Series are all good choices. Of the three I prefer the 147gr — good expansion, great penetration, low recoil, and a subsonic report.

Here's a comparason pic I took of 3 different 147gr JHP bullets. I like using the HST because the jacket looks like it'll expand bigger and easier. Plus it has great reviews online and on youtube.

Is your 45 a standard 1911, Commander or Officers? 230 grain for both standard and Commander, 185 grain for an Officers.
