View Full Version : Deciding Whether or Not to Continue Carrying My D Frame

It's been quite a journey.

Circumstances dictate that I have to carry in deep cover, and the Smartcarry has fit the bill perfectly for several years now.

My custom Cobra has been the perfect carry piece due to its size, shape, weight, and self defense capabilities.

Just yesterday I put 100rnds of wadcutters through it at the range, and I can shoot accurately.

But Ruger has now come up with a slim, 11 shot, 9mm semi with a manual safety. A revolver satisfied my safety requirements when carried in the Smartcarry rig, but a slender 9mm semi with a manual safety could be a game changer.

I'm just rambling out loud trying to make a decision here.

As long as you don't sell it you can always reverse, no harm done. Get the ruger and run it through its paces, or wait and see what the reliability reports say.

Keep carrying what you shoot best with until you've brought the new Ruger up to the same level of proficiency, then switch out. 5 hits with a 357 > 11 misses with a 9 :D

I think you should sell the Cobra to me and buy the Ruger! That's a nice looking gun. If I had it I would definitely not sell it. Never underestimate the usefulness, effectiveness and simplicity of a snub revolver.

It's been used in a SmartCarry. Whilst I won't say a thing about the effectiveness of the holster... I wouldn't want to buy a second-hang firearm from someone who used it in the fore-mentioned holster. No way shape or form saying anything negative about the OP either.

You'd probably not be the first.

I'd want all my shots up to date, and know somebody with a hazmat suit and an autoclave ready to go.:D

100rnds thru the SR9C this afternoon at the range.

Performed flawlessly with both mag's and hardball and HP ammo.

However, I've assigned it to car duty and will continue to carry the Cobra.

Taurus MilPro got bumped from car duty and sold.

Nice setup, looks like mine. CZ 75B in a Fobus left-handed paddle holster mounted to the console of my Wrangler.

Yep

Mine's a left-handed, Uncle Mike's cheapo

I keep it covered with a small rag and with the tinted windows, it can't been seen down that low by the floorboard.

Note the holes drilled through for the screw heads to get to the other side.

Yeah I had to do the same thing if you look closely you can see the hole I drilled into the side of the holster.

For total concealement I always have an extra hat in the Jeep that I just place over it.

Oh, and I just added some magazine pouches from Specter Gear to hold an extra mag and my flashlight. Small black zipties work excellent to secure them to almost anything.
