View Full Version : 308 Deer Rifle, Savage Edge?

Someone give me a good reason not to pick up a Savage Edge in 308 or I think I will. This would be my first deer rifle and I'd be picking it up for the upcoming season.

I can find it for under $300...seems too cheap but everything I've heard is great!

Hard to go wrong with a Savage. I might get one with an accutrigger though.

I thought that as well, but I'm not sure the Accutrigger is worth another 200 or so dollars. I've never used one though so it's hard to say.

once you experience the accutrigger I think you will be $200 poorer, it really is all that and a bag of lays

If I were to buy a new deer rifle I would go with a 6.5mm variant.
6.5mm x 55 or the 6.5 -06

The Savage Edge's only weakness is the trigger, reports are it's pretty stiff. Not as bad as the Ruger rifles but stiffer than even the old non-accutrigger Savages.

Why spend $200 for the accu-trigger when you can buy an after-market just as good for half the price? The timney (ok, not a 2-stage) is $104 from from Midway.

*Disclosure - from a Savage owner without an accu-trigger.
