The CMMG MK-8 billet lower receiver is at the heart of this 7.62x51 NATO semiautomatic rifle. The MK-8 receiver is unique for an AR-pattern .308 rifle in that it is designed to use the inexpensive and plentiful H&K G3 magazines. We contacted a local AR manufacturer to design a matching DPMS-compatible billet upper receiver so that we could bring an affordable complete .308 / 7.62x51 rifle to market.

Question: can a piston 7.62X51 upper like a LWRC REPR be used with these lower receivers?

No, the REPR upper is not compatible with any other lower.

Bummer. Do you know of any .308/7.62X51 gas piston AR pattern upper that would be compatible with your G3 magazine lower? Or does Riflegear offer their own piston upper for use on these lowers?

I love the idea of using readily available magazines like the G3/CETME, but I'd like a gas piston upper vs. a direct impingement.

A POF piston upper may work, but you would have to mill a bit of material out of the upper receiver to make clearance for the G3 mags.
