Thank you :)

We're almost out, I think there is enough for one, maybe two weeks at the current pace. After that it will be July/August before the next production run will be ready.

Here are a couple of discussions/posts about the selector that offers more details, until our website is updated:

How much for only the thin and short levers?

How much for only the thin and short levers?

At this time, we are only selling the BAD-Ambi Selector Switch set with (3) levers as this is the first production run and they are made this way for people to try out before deciding.

We are surprised by how many people changed their minds during the prototype phase and even in the past couple of weeks since the product was lunched. Many think they like the SHORT lever but ended up liking the THIN lever better after they had a chance to try it. It also happened just as frequently the other way around. I, myself have changed my mind a couple of times.

We are unable to break up the remaining sets of our selector until the next production run as it will leave us with incomplete sets. We are just about sold out of them.

However, Henderson Defense Industries have our selectors in stock in (2) lever configurations.

Here is HDI's post (http://www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=3&f=124&t=498276&page=1).

Or you can go directly to their site here (http://www.hendersondefense.com/store/pc/B-A-D-Ambi-Selector-Lever-35p177.htm)

Thank you.

George,

Any way to place a backorder for the ambi safety selector?

Hi Gasman,

We have received a lot of requests for backorders on the BAD-Ambi Safety Selector in addition to yours.

We have shy away from allowing back orders as it is difficult to set an exactly delivery date due to some of the manufacturing processes that are beyond our control. We don't want our customers to be upset if we say end of July and then the product doesn't show up until end of August.

With that said, we have received enough emails and phone calls from people such as yourself about opening up the backorder and telling us that they understand that the delivery date may vary. So, we have decided to allow backorders for the BAD-Ambi Safety Selector as of today. The Price is $60 with FREE USPS First Class Mail Shipping (3-5 business days).

USE "FREESHIP" Coupon Code during check-out. ***MAKE SURE YOU CLICK APPLY***

BTW - The new and all future production kits will include a high quality Safety Detent (Machined out of Hardened Stainless Steel, made for us by KNS Precision - Made in USA) and a higher quality T10 Torx L-Key (Also Made in USA).

http://i75.photobucket.com/albums/i314/Duffypoo/SSSafetyDetents.jpg

Comparison to a typical safety detent:
http://i75.photobucket.com/albums/i314/Duffypoo/SSSafetyDetent-1.jpg

An old and misshapen Safety Detent can cause the rotation to feel gritty or have a sloppy lock up.

This is one of the aspects we can't control with the Safety Selector alone so we decided to include a high quality Safety Detent with every BAD-Ambi Safety Selector kit to minimize the variables at no added cost. :)

Hi guys, many of you may know me from ar15.com and m4carbine.net, I'm in CA and my membership here is long over due :)

Full disclosure: I'm one of the guys at Battle Arms Development.

I hope to contribute to calguns.net as I have on the other sites, I'm not here just to hawk our gear.

A few more things about our ambidextrous safety selector:

After the initial production run, we digested user feedback and suggestions and introduced the PIP (product improvement program) enhancements that will be included in this incoming and all future productions:

1. We want to make sure an old or misshapen detent will not interfere with our selector. Such a detent will prove to be a problem with any new selector, a KNS Precision stainless steel selector detent will be included in every kit.
2. Inclusion of a higher quality T10 wrench.
3. Optional thin-short lever, it can be purchased separately, or replace any of the three levers in the standard kit.
4. The thickness of the flat/cam area of the selector axis has been reduced for better compatibility with LMT’s 2 stage and Wilson Combat trigger. To date, existing units have worked well with standard, JP, RRA, Geiselle, and WOA triggers, and only instances where the LMT 2 stage trigger and Wilson’s TTU had a problem. Our selectors are based on Colt specs and guaranteed to work with spec triggers. Aftermarket triggers can have problems with Colt spec selectors, not just ours.

All told, the original kits that do not have the PIP enhancements will work fine with 99% of the triggers, and majority of the selector detents out there. We’re doing what we can on our end to eliminate the variables that could cause issues, which would cause issues for other selectors as well, but nobody except Spike’s (they will be carrying our selectors soon) has taken the extra measures to ensure flawless functionality.

Please feel free to contact me any time with questions or suggestions, roger@battlearmsdevelopment.com, thank you :)

I picked up one of the new bad *** ambi selectors a couple weeks ago and I really like the design. I'm a left handed shooter so the functionality is perfect for my needs. My only regret is since you guys were out I ordered from Henderson Defense, and they don't give you the full kit (only 2 out of 3 configuration options). It also doesn't have the new steel/detent options, and no the 4th of July savings!

Other than that it's a great product and I might just have to order one of the new versions so I can have the improved safety detent and all the configuration options. There was some slight rigidness when I installed it in my BCM lower, so I'm thinking the new design might fix that.

Duffy

CaliforniAR,
Please email me, roger@battlearmsdevelopment.com and I'll send you a KNS SS selector detent.

The KNS SS selector detent is free to customers that bought our ambidextrous safety selector either from us directly or Henderson Defense :)

Not everyone needs a new detent. That an old, worn and misshapen detent can have a sloppy lock up and gritty feeling when rotating is known to us. The detent and the groove in the selector axis get mated, and the quality of the detent can vary. I'd wager what comes in most LPKs isn't as nice or high quality as the KNS detent (except Spke's, they use the same KNS detents).

We include one in the new and future production kits, so customers don't have to get one AFTER they find out theirs don't work so well (with any new selector, not just ours) :)

JOHNNYRAMBO,
We're expecting the latest production in couple of weeks, barring any other delays. This production run will include the PIP (product improvement program) enhancements as outlined in a post above.

In addition to the PIP enhancements, we're also introducing two additional levers (the kit still ships with three levers, standard, short, and thin). These two levers are short-thin, and hybrid, and can be ordered separately, or substitute the levers in the standard kit (please email me for customized lever configuration)

:)

We have enough units for the next 30 to 45 days before the next production units arrive, probably in mid or late October, barring any delays :)

We now have (5) Different Selector Designs and (25) Combinations!

BAD-Ambi Safety Selector is almost sold out.

BAD-CASS-3P (Battle Arms Development - Combat Ambidextrous Safety Selector - 3 Piece design) for the M16 (Full Auto) is now AVAILABLE! New Lever Attachment Design that is even more robust and stronger than the BAD-Ambi Safety Selector. The new dovetail attachment relieves the stress on the screw, which is typically the weak point.

We are rushing a small batch of STANDARD Levers so we can reinforce/resupply our remaining kits that would have been incomplete. This rush production should be available in about 1 week and extend our inventory to maybe the 3rd week or 4th week of November.

After we run out, the next production run would hopefully be ready right before Christmas, IF our plater and heat treat facility can stay on schedule. If we run into delays, it maybe after the New Years before we will have more in stock. :(

one quick question, on the three that ive used, i had to sand down the middle part a little bit to make it smooth during the transition from fire to safe. ive used 4 different triggers on it (timney, rra 2 stage, ar gold, and a rra standard trigger), same effect. has anyone else had this problem? pre-sanding, its very stiff, and i like it to be "flickable". am i off-base here?

wdigeorge
12-21-2010, 10:54 PM
That is a very good question. You're talking about the detent groove that you have to sand right? If so, it has nothing to do with the trigger.

It is only rough when you flip the switch in one of the directions right? In our very first production batch, there were some that had a bit of metal burr in the detent groove hole that was left over from machining that didn't get removed during the tumbling process. Your safety detent is getting caught on a tiny bit of excess metal dangling around the rim of the detent hole. Usually that roughness goes away after you manipulate the safety a few times and the burr is pushed out.

We have since eliminated that potential problem for all future productions by adding an extra step of manually hand polish of the detent grooves. We have also produced a custom jig to test every safety selector with our S.S. safety detent to ensure smooth operation. I think this is over and above what most, if not all, other manufacturers are doing to their safety selectors.

If you like, we would be happy to send you a replacement center safety bar. Please email Roger at roger@battlearmsdevelopment.com and include this post in the email. He will take good care of you. ;)

Does the unit stick out on either side? I have a Spike's Tactical Ambi Safety Selector to which I am not very fond off and it would want something close to a better fit.

Does the unit stick out on either side? I have a Spike's Tactical Ambi Safety Selector to which I am not very fond off and it would want something close to a better fit.

Hi Outta Control,

You brought up a very good question/concern. Let me see if I can help explain this issue of the "unit stick out on either side."

The BAD-Ambi Safety Selector is designed to have the proper gap between the inside Selector Lever and the Receiver Sidewall. The gap is required/necessary to avoid rubbing and binding. It is there for reliability.

Every one of our safety selector is precision CNC machined from BAR STOCK STEEL to exacting tolerances that are tighter than typical CAST or Metal Injection Mold (MIM) safeties. So essentially every safety selector we put out have the same exacting tolerances.

With that said, the BAD-Ambi Safety Selector Lever "could" have a larger than normal "GAP" between the inside of the lever and the receiver sidewall DEPENDING on the THICNKESS of the LOWER RECEIVER.

Not all AR Lower Receivers have the same thickness and the tolerances vary greatly from manufacturer to manufacturer. What we have found in our research is that many of the lower receivers machined from Forgings are thinner than Billet lower receivers and "mil-spec" lowers such as COLT.

We have designed our safety selector to fit Mil-Spec Lowers, such as COLT, which typically have a thicker receiver than your average commercial Forged AR Lowers. It is also designed to fit many Billet Machined Lowers as well (i.e. POF).

The overall safety selector cylinder length must be designed to be compatible with the mil-spec COLT and other "thicker" (typically Billet) receivers. So, when you have a receiver that is THINNER than "normal", the larger than "normal" GAP (typically on the Right Side Lever) occurs. If we make the cylinder length shorter, to eliminate the "gap" on the Thinner Lower Receivers, then they will not work on the COLT or other thicker Billet Lower Receivers.

This "issue" is universal to all Ambidextrous Safety Selectors on the market even if you buy LMT, DPMS, TROY, etc. etc. They all have to have a set length so their safety is compatible to as many lower receivers as possible or else there will be a lot more people complaining that the safety selector is BINDING/RUBBING on the receiver wall. That would be much worse than a gap. A slightly larger gap is the lesser of two evils as it is mainly cosmetic, if you happen to have that problem.

If we make our own lower receiver + safety selector combo and don't care about our safety going into other lower receivers, then the gap can be taken out. Since there are many manufacturers involved, it is impossible to be sure that the gap never exist as each company have their own manufacturing tolerances. Even in the same manufacturer of lower receivers, we have found the receiver thickness to vary, sometimes by quite a bit.

There are also other factors that affect the "gap" between the lever and the receiver wall. The position of the small "vertical" hole for the Safety Detent & Spring can also affect the gap. If the hole is drilled too close INSIDE or too far OUTSIDE of the receiver wall, that will shift the alignment of the safety selector, causing the lever to bind or have excess gap.

Stacking & Varying Tolerances are at play here. We are controlling what we can do on our end to ensure exact fit but there will also be some small percentage of people having problems due to varying tolerances of their lower receiver.

I hope I am not too long winded but this is my "short" version in order to explain this properly. :o

Hopefully that I have answered your question.

Regards,

George

Thanks BOFH! I am glad that you like the product. We believe it is the best billet CNC machined and most versatile Ambidextrous Safety Selector available for the AR15/AR10/M16/M4 platform.

As for price, we think it is modestly priced as it costs less than the two closest comparable product, if you factor in the (3) Levers, SS Detent, etc. that we include in each BAD-Ambidextrous Safety Selector kit.

We don't cut any corners. Just old fashioned hard work to making it right. :)

Give us a shout if you need anything thing or have any questions. Thanks again.

Hi Samer327,

It will be about 8 weeks before the next batch will be ready. However, I just went through our inventory and found two more short & thin levers.

If you are going to place an order, just choose the 3rd lever that you wanted a "Short+Thin" lever as a "Standard" lever. Then, in the Notes section write "One Standard Lever to be Short+Thin Lever - Lever in stock per George".

Thanks!

I have a question regarding:

Battle Arms Development - Ambidextrous Safety Selector - Short Throw (BAD-***-ST) for the SPECIALIZED 45 MARKED AND MODIFIED AR-Style Lower Receiver in Semi Auto (Lower receiver will available from AR15.com, AXTS, and Spike's Tactical).

I ordered a Spike's Tactical billet upper and lower set. Will this safety works on this lower? Or do I need to do surgery to the safety?

BTW - For clarification as some of you have asked. Here is the link to the Standard Black Phosphate finished Ambi Safety Selectors at $60/set for easy access. Some of the higher priced ones ($79) are CERKOTED, 45deg Short Throw, or Full-Auto.

Second Row - Center (sorry, can't do direct link as the link paths are in conflict with the Calguns word filter).

Oooooh awesome new selector.... I assume that's be for the left side of the gun ( if you're right handed )

First off......you have a fantastic product. I couldn't be happier with it in all aspects . 2 things that all ar's should have . magpul BAD lever and the BADASS selector. Doubtful i'll have a build without it.

Can't wait to make a lower with the 45 degree selector. Any way that will ever be available as a retrofit on existing lowers?

once again , great product guys!! how can i order the new lever by itself ?
