Well store bought sticks are just too expensive for my taste so I set out to make some of my own.
I bought two pieces of hardwood and sanded with 80 then 200, then put about six coats of Thompsons waterseal on them.

I let the final coat dry overnight and hit with the rough edge of a sponge.
Then I figured I need something to keep the noise down when I put my gun up, and not scratch it either. So I found something the wife had been asking me to throw away for awhile, my old Georgia boot.http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v327/Baxter75th/Shotting%20sticks/IMG_0320.jpg
Time for the trimming and waterproofing.

I let the mink oil sit over night and wiped off excess and secured old boot loop to the top of my new sticks with some small nails I had.http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v327/Baxter75th/Shotting%20sticks/IMG_0330.jpg
Then rapped old faithful farm and ranch around the top.http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v327/Baxter75th/Shotting%20sticks/IMG_0332.jpghttp://img.photobucket.com/albums/v327/Baxter75th/Shotting%20sticks/IMG_0333.jpg
I also drilled and attached the two sticks with a wing nut so I can adjust the tightness.http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v327/Baxter75th/Shotting%20sticks/IMG_0331.jpg
All and all I think they came out great. Thanks for lookinghttp://img.photobucket.com/albums/v327/Baxter75th/Shotting%20sticks/IMG_0335.jpg
Probably cost me around ten bucks not counting labor, considering I had most of the parts.

Nice... It's great to get more use out of something that's shot like those boots.

very cool man, the only thing i would be worried about is the scent coming off the leather and oil and the sealer you used.

good job man, looks solid. if you ever feel like camo'ing those things, check out camo-clad. its like camouflaged wallpaper that sticks to anything (you can get any camo pattern you want). I use it on all of my sticks. heres a quick pic of it-

Looks nice, might just stain them dark. I think I am going to give them to my Pops for Faathers day if he likes them.

Those are nice, great job. Maybe a zebra pattern on the sticks. Just something a bit more unusual...
