Now that ocean kayak season is "open" its time to fish the kelp beds of the central coast for the ever elusive fish taco. The season has been open since May 1st, but the weather hasnt been good and the fishing has been slow. But this weekend should be nice and the tacos should be hanging around the kelp beds.

We will be camping near the beach, (hopefully close) and Ive invited several calgunners. Hopefully some of y'all can make it and hopefully you'll see some pics of what we get. We will be on the central coast, between San Luis Obispo and Monterey. The more the merrier, noobs and longtimers are more than welcome.

p.s. the fish arent exactly tacos, thats shorting them, the species is actually Taco Deliciouso

you know my cell, Ill give you my brothers as well, if you get up there in the late AM, you can "catch" us after the morning fish, and go sat PM and or sun AM. Jeff will get back to me around thu if he is going. (i think he likes all the plans to be "for sure" and not knowing "for sure" where the camp site will be is not his cup o tea) ---although he will sleep in his car anyway !!!!!!----

he may bring a friend and i hope he comes.

If they are good enough to frown on it, good for them. Jimmy Houston Im not, so my crew heads straight for the beds. We go off Kayaks, so we get what we get. If you are serious about going, i can try to get you some gear to borrow. If anything, fish off the beach and camp with us.

ps Im in the SCV as well...

Thats what I think when Im out there, but I know Im fairly safe.
The swells got real high, the current and the wind was very strong. I was out for maybe 1 1/2 hours before it got all blown out. I got 2 nice medium spined rockfish, that grilled well.

I used 2 photos in a disposeable camera, (the first two) and ill post them in a while. Great trip though.

Me too. It doesn't stop me from going in the water, but I've been abalone diving off Point Arena and I used to swim regularly in Santa Cruz, and Sharks were always in the back (the front, actually) of my mind.

I camped at my brothers house in Templeton, due to a bunch of people flaking out on me. But I hunt that area all the time, and am up there all the time. I'd love to meet a local hunter out there, although Im just north of LA.
