View Full Version : Stag collapsible (A2) vs tactical OAL?

Anyone know if there's a difference in overall length between the collapsible stag "tactical" buttstock (fully extended) and the standard, fixed, A2 stock?

I feel like my tactical stock is a few inches too short so I'm hoping that the A2 style might correct that.

Thanks.

it depends; buttpad or muzzle break/flash hider added or none, etc...
what is it that you want to achieve?
A2 length or collapsible length?
few inches short of what - the legal 30" requirement?
as long as you are within 30" min AOL on shortest configuration, you're ok.
if it is the A2 length you desire, then A2 style will really do it.

My Stag A2 buttstock is 17.75" from the front of the magwell (not counting the pivot pin boss) to the end of the shoulder pad, and 10.5" from the rear of the receiver to the end.

Not the Stag, but my RRA 6-position mil-spec ranges as follows:

Front of magwell to pad - 15.25" to 18.25"
Rear of receiver to pad - 8" to 11"

Even fully collapsed, 15.25" plus your 16" barrel is 31.25", giving you 1.25" "breathing room" for the difference between the distance from the front of the magwell to the end of your barrel and the bolt face to the end of your barrel.

And keep in mind, that 16" would be for a 14.5" upper with a 2" muzzle device (1.5" extension").
Most 16" uppers are actually 16.5", and when you tack a muzzle device onto the end you're actually closer to 18" barrel length, giving you 2.25" "breathing room" before you're under the minimum 30" OAL.

He is wondering which stock is longer, not sure as I don't have an A2 yet.

A2 is 1/2" shorter than a fully extended telescoping stock and 2-1/2" longer than a fully collapsed telescoping stock.

But since he now has the measurement of the A2, he can compare that to what he has.
