Black/grey wild boar 150 lbs. approximate weight (we cut him up in the field, and I packed out the meat and head) Tikka .308, Hornady GMX 150 grain from about 50-60 yards broadside, dead in his tracks. Got some great shoulders and backstraps.
Can't believe I scored on my first hunt ever, still buzzing about it and can't wait to get back out there. That is one beautiful piece of land.

^Dave had a hog on the rack before anyone else on this trip, and yeah, we gotta do that again. I'm scouring the classifieds for a Rhino and sharper knife as we speak. Damn fun weekend.

Great job for both of you, those pigs are some good eating. I usually cut up a few roasts and get the rest made into sausage, the family likes the sausage better.

Congratulations on your "maiden voyage". I'm going out on mine over Memorial Day. I hope I can pinup a few pix of my own. I wonder if I should through salt over my shoulder and carry a rabbits foot. LOL

I wouldn't mind tagging along. I will contact them and see what I can get us for a group rate. I think I remember it being around $350 PP unguided but that was 2 years ago.

Way to go,,,congrats. Now..."Betcha can't just kill one!" Dittos on the sausage. Dave's Meat service in Modesto does my hogs. He makes a great medium spice Italian link and his cost is reasonable! 30-338:)

Thanks. I would have taken the .243 but I just bought a new .308 (which I had been told was a better round for hogs) and the price of the .243 lead-free was a frickin' RAPE over the counter. More lead-free variety for the .308

This sure sounds like the Tejon Pig-O-Rama with Phillip?!?!....He got me hooked a few years ago...and I unfortunately was not able to attend this year....I've gone 3 other times with them. Glad you scored!!! Speckmisser Ridge ring a bell? I just read his blog which I think details your hunt...has to be the same "Clay" in his story. Congrats on your first pig!!! Great table fare!!! See you next year!!

Yeah, that was me in the story, super cool of him to detail the evening hunt in the blog. The pig I took was at Speckmisser Ridge, go figure!! Speck's a good dude, totally selfless, and knows where the pigs are. Kind of a bummer, but he won't be putting the Tejon Hunt on next year, so it's up to someone else to step up to the plate and do the planning. Whenever it happens again, I'll be there, I'm hooked!!

Nice piggy Clay.

JHO will be having the hog hunt at Tejon next year since Phil has said he's unable to do it any more. Same deal as this hunt and we'll have the gear raffle Saturday night. Great place for a new hog hunter to learn from the vets and Tejon is just such a great place to camp and hunt. Eric (XDhunter) will be bringing a whole pig too for supper.

BBQ'd some of the ribs the other night, came out pretty good.

Gonna get a smoker and brine and smoke the hams.

Probably gonna make some carnitas and have a taco party soon too.

Looks good!! I was kinda surprised how much meat I got back from the butcher. Had to be an easy 80-90 lbs. of pork products in my deep freeze right now. Brats, Hot Italian sausage, and a bunch of backstrap chops and tenderloins. I've only eaten the brats so far, but they were DAMN good with a bunch of 'kraut and mustard (I'm German, don't give me any crap) Big props to Bree's custom meats in Garden Grove.

Hey Clay, what did they charge to do the whole pig?
I cut mine up myself, but it is still in 6 big pieces, 2 hams, 2 shoulders, and 2 racks.
I just threw some ribs on the grill for the heck of it to see how they would come out.

$135 total, that included 1/2 Brats (linked) and 1/2 Hot Italian (bulk), I saved one shoulder roast and gave it to Roger, since he's got the big smoker to make smoked ham. There is a lot of food in my deep freeze now.
