i just bought a 14.5" permanent muzzle brake upper from cmmg. i heard they are very good, accurate and very good priced(got mine complete for $500). then i saw bcm uppers and felt i should have maybe gone with their upper instead, but for an extra $150 i dont know if it would really make a difference? does anyone have an opinion on this?

i like the options which CMMG have...but many would consider BCM better. i myself have a BCM.

you probably won't be able to tell the difference. BCM uses Mil-Spec 11595E - Barrel Steel. CMMG uses 4150...not sure if those are the same in any respect. CMMG does state, "Mil-spec certified 4150 chrome-moly vanadium steel M4 contour barrel"

BCM HP and MP their barrels. and i think CMMG only does MP. i'm still thinking about picking up a CMMG upper

Yes BCM is better. NO don't have any regrets. CMMG are still a great bargain. You may want to get the bcm extractor spring upgrade though. Did you at least get the 1/7 chrome-lined?

awesome chart...think someone posted it up before, but just a section...thanks for the whole link!

and yes, make sure you get chrome-lined...all BCM are 1/7. i think CMMG should be all 1/7 also...right?

yes... i got the 14.5" 1x7 chrome lined upper... i am thinking maybe i should at least get a bcm bolt carrier group and use the cmmg bolt as a back up?

Just use your CMMG bolt carrier. If it ever breaks, replace it. No reason to replace it if its working just fine.

Wouldn't be a bad idea for a backup, though not totally necessary. I have a bcm and a DD. I have 2 lmt bolts for backup. The old saying goes "two is one, one is none"
