Is it a good round for hunting/long range target shooting?

My son uses it for whitetail and has taken them from as far away as 330yds.

good round but not very many choices for match bullets for long range.

Good hunting round, but too limited in match quaility target bullets. Take a look at the number of 7mm and 30 caliber projectiles compared to .277. I have taken many deer and pigs with a .270 winchester. I wouldn't hesitate a second to go hunting with that caliber, especially here in California. If I were going to shoot long range targets, I would pick a caliber with a lot of component choices. Easier to get bulk brass and projectiles.

The 260 remington would be a great alternative but you are not going to find this ammo stocked at your local sporting goods store. Reloading or online orders only.

You will never regret owning a .270 for most game and all-around fun shooting. Excellent ballistics in general. Less kick than a 30.06. Cheap, reloadable. Etc, etc.
