oh man i cant wait, its almost time for the annual trip up to the sierra's to go get me some trout.
i've always just bought a wal-mart rod and reel combo or whatever dad handed down but this year i feel like getting a brand new rod and reel, whats everyone suggest?
I just picked up a backpackers Ugly Stick and Symetre 2500FJ reel from Mel Cotton's in San Jose.
The stick was relatively cheap and can be broken down so you can fit it in a pack. I think it was around US$50.00 or so
The reel was hugely expensive (US$100.00) but was so pretty and smooth that I had to have it.
I'm going out to Lake DeValle this month to break them in.

If your on a budget you can get an ugly stik lite.. I used 2 of them when I went up for the trout opener at PVR and Twin Lakes.
Fish on!

the bass pro lite setup is what I've used for years. decent rod with a decent reel. I did hook up with a 6-8lb trout and he spooled me and broke off up in kern recently. So you may want this and something a little bigger.

I use a two piece pole versus the backpacker poles. I like the action better and it is not a hassle. Isn't there a lot of snow still in the serrias?
