This post has me a bit unnerved:

http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/showthread.php?t=300166

There are several .50 cal events scheduled in the near future here in SoCal and it looks like the poster is a SoCal resident. Can anyone tell us if we are at risk from this event and tell us where it occurred? I understand that the poster cannot discuss this and it's logical that the thread was locked, but we really need to know. Thanks.

He was probably not able to properly articulate the law to the detective. Sad to say, but in CA, you need to KNOW your laws inside and out when you play with black rifles or anything else on the bleeding edge of legality.

The detective told him that "there was a new law and that anything larger than .50 is illegal" My response would've been....

"Great. Then you should have no problems citing the penal code of this new law. Oh, and by the way, this rifle isn't chambered in .50BMG"

I probably would've called 911 or the local PD and mentioned that there was an illegal seizure in progress.

We've got to stand up to these thugs. They don't know the law, and I'll be damned if I hand anything over without a verbal fight.

Sounds like another thug with a badge didn't know the law. I'm sure he will recieve some training in the near future.

Continue about your business with your legal firearm(s).

We're (CGF) contacting the specific gentleman. It'll end up OK.

I am so glad we have such a group to take care of these kinds of things that occur. Back to my regularly scheduled program now ;)

You are always at risk. You are probably at less risk at a gathering of 40 guys with .50 DTC rifles than being by yourself at the range. If you don't like risk, you should have never bought a .50 DTC and should also stay away from anything else that doesn't resemble a over and under shotgun with a 30" barrel.

Know the law, bring the law with you, have the Calguns Foundation Phone number in your phone, and record everything.

What is that contact number? I don't see it listed on the CGF site. Thanks.

Looking at that thread, the date for that event is May 16th. Longshot37 posted his unfortunate situation on 05/11.

I'd respectfually ask that further commentaries/queries subside on this matter, as it could turn out to be helpful.

Until something happens that prevents this from happening again, everything isn't "OK".

Stuff like this happens over and over. Cop seizes legal firearm. Owner expends huge amounts of time and money. Sometimes firearm is returned, sometimes it isn't. Cop faces zero sanctions or penalties, and goes out and does it again. I don't see anything that's close to "OK" here.
