Well, thanks to calguns and youtube, I just finished my mega lower with Magpul MIAD grip and MOE mil-spec stock.

I got 2 problems though.

1.) Got my lower kit from riflegear (great service), and came with the CMMG lower parts kit. There is a big spring (the biggest in the bunch) and a small, silver ring with teeth (cogs?) inside that I did not get to use. You know that feeling, when you're done with the project and found out you have a nut here or bolt there left over? That's how I feel right now. What did I miss?

2.) After inserting the buffer spring and buffer into the buffer tube, I can hear them "rattle" inside the tube if I shake it. I haven't put on the upper assembly yet, so I don't know if the spring and buffer will stop rattling in the tube once the entire rifle comes together. Is it suppose to be rattling? I'm not talking about a slight rattle, but something that will ruin a delta force or navy seal's day real badly if he's on a stealth mission inside some quiet warehouse, the rattle from the tube WILL give him away to a nearby bad guy. So I can't imagine the stock would be designed to rattle like that...

Small ring with teeth is the washer for the pistol grip screw.
Big spring most likely will be the buffer retainer spring.

The rattle sounds to be normal. Steel spring in an aluminum body gonna make some noise. I think Larue makes a coated buffer spring if it bugs you too much.

Edit to add:Nevermind they don't!

The "silver ring with teeth" is the washer that goes on the bolt that holds the grip on. Rattling is normal.

1) the washer is for your pistol grip. the big spring is probably your mag catch spring. the one that is installed with your mag catch and mag release button. if you are using a mag lock like a bullet button, then you will not use this spring.

2) the spring rattling is normal.

oh, yea and congrats!

1.) did you use a bullet button? IIRC the big spring is for the mag release.

2.) just shook my lower it does have a rattle, it is less noticeable when the upper is on

you guys really know these parts, I was just thinking I may not get answers from my descriptions.

Yes, I'm using bb, so I guess I wouldn't be using that big spring.

Do I really need to install the washer for the pistol grip screw? It didn't come in Magpul's MIAD kit, and I've already installed the grip, feels tight to me now. Did you guys install yours?

As for the rattle, I guess I'll have to live with it, as long as it's incorrectly installed.

Thanks guys.

I don't have a washer on mine just some blue loctite, never had a problem.

The rattle sounds weird when you first shoot an ar, it makes a sporng sound. You can also tell when you fire the last round as there is a difference in the sound.

From the buffer spring and tube?

Dang, you can tell if you've just shot the last round by the sound of the buffer spring in the tube? I wonder if I'll be able to do that one day.

You'll know what I'm talking about once you shoot it. It goes from a sporngggggg sound to more of a sprong, hard to explain.

actually, its not that difficult to notice the sound difference from the last round because bolt will be held back after your magazine is empty. Spring doesn't return fully when mag empty unlike when bolt is chambering the round.

If your pistol grip is tight there is no need. I have played with different combinations of lowers, pistol grip screws and pistol grips and some need a washer and some don't. If it is tight it is doing its job.

I just got my lower done. The biggest spring in the parts kit is for the mag release button. unless you are talking about the buffer spring which is the biggest spring in the lower.

The rattle is in my rifle also. It seems to be less in the regular stock but I can hear it well in the collapsible one.
