i was reading a non gun related mag where this maryland vendor brought in some class 3 and other AW AR variants for the magazine editors to shoot.

the event was in calif.

i thought people competing in shooting events could.

but what about vendors?

class 3 is an SOT (Special Occupational Tax Classes) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Federal_Firearms_License

he is referring to Title II weapons http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Title_II_weapons

My LWRC guy has to use a bullet button and 10-round mags on his demo rifle even when he's doing demos for the Navy.

Just curious, in that situation, couldn't he ask them to sign out one of their un-neutered M4s and put the piston upper on their lower?

Unless they have various DOJ permits - wholly aside from Fed paperwork - they should not be bringing in guns at any level of 'evilness'.

Many 'trainers' seem to think - INCORRECTLY!! - one or more of the following:
1) the AW 'competition exemption' protects them (it barely protects competition anyway and should not be relied upon at all)
2) CA's AW laws are like the expired Fed law and thus similar to NY/NJ etc.
3) the fact they're training some cops gives them 'cover'
4) "nobody's bustin' for that
