I really want to shoot some ground squirrels, but I have no idea where to go that isn't an 8 hour drive north. Are any of you guys within 100 miles of Sacramento willing to show me your secret squirrel hunting grounds? I'll try to make it worth your while.

Any where theres a levee you will find them little bastards. I used to shoot them all the time in Nicholas at my Grandparents when I was younger.

I just got the weekend off (was on-call) and now I'm free to go squirrel murderin'. There's a couple WA's open around the truckee area, or I might go to a NatFor and tramp around.

EDIT: http://www.dfg.ca.gov/lands/wa/region2/docs/colusabypass/ColusaBypassWA.pdf is looking pretty good. It's in a squirrel rich area. http://www.dfg.ca.gov/lands/wa/region2/colusabypass.html appears to be open all year round. Shotgun only but I'm cool with that. Anyone want to go and make a posse?

Just so you know, they find Bubonic plague on the ground squirrels around here every year. It's on the fleas the squirrels carry. You won't see me handling these fleabags. The last report I just saw was in Lytle Creek near the campground.

i usually go up to SBNF/big bear and have at it. lots of pesky woodpeckers and ground squirrels to have fun all day! plus they are a nuisance and nobody up there cares if you shoot them. except some people down the hill; they get sensitive and might call PETA

I can't imagine you're allowed to shoot woodpeckers.

Apparently grey squirrels are cleaner and better eating. With that said..I'm getting into hunting and need someone to go with sometimes. If you want someone to shoot with, send me a PM :)

Maybe someone should go and plant a whole mess of plagued ground squirrels around the perimeter of the peta headquarters. I don't think they'll mind at all.
