So I am getting a Dan Wesson PM7 here in a couple weeks and I want to throw some different grips on it. I really wanted something that stands out and looked at real Ivory, mother of pearl inlaid, Damascus steel grips, and others. My question is that are there any grips out there that just stand apart from the rest. I looked at some Wicked, VZ, Esmerelda grips, but I want something that is really out of the box. Question 2 is, are there any target style grips with a thumb rest or thumb notch cut out and finger grooves besides hogue. I REALLY don't want a rubber grip on a stainless 1911.

I got mine from budsgunshop. I got the 2nd to last one they had of 200 made apparently for 2010. I don't honestly know if i'm going to even shoot it or just sit it in the safe for a few years and see what happens to its value.

As for the monster grips, I only like the aluminum grips and I think the others look like something out of a video game.

I never knew there were 1911 grips with thumbrest, isn't that what the safety is for? For regular grips I love VZ grips.

I found some for you!

trickyvic, thanks a bunch. I think I need to change my pants after looking at some of those nill grips.

Those were really floating my boat, and a few others there were really sweet looking but kind of impractical for daily use. Thanks for the search-fu!

What is the general consensus about alumagrips?? I like some of the styles but are they fairly narrow?

PM me your mailing address and I'll loan you a set of Alumagrips to try out. I own lots and lots and lots and lots of grips. Mostly Ahrends. I send him my wood selections and he makes my grips. What are your preferences? Do you like standard beveled or magwell bottoms. Are you going to add a magwell? Mainspring pin covered or open? Need more info. I also have some REAL target grips for a 1911. See my post here.

Here is another unusual alternative. These are polished black water buffalo horn, hand inscribed by a small shop in Vietnam. Many designs are available on the website, or you could send your own drawings. Patience required -- delivery took over 5 months!
