View Full Version : .308 buffer weight

I'm slowly putting my .308 together and am wondering what weight buffer to use. In all my .223's I've used the standard carbine buffer without any problems but .308's are kind of a new and weird beast to me and I'm unsure with the larger round if a heavier buffer is necessary. Thanks in advance.

A heavier buffer is required, just use the one made for the AR-10 (308)
Which exact setup are you building with what stock and buffer tube?

I guess I would make my life a hell of a lot easier if I just put an A2 stock on it, but I already picked up a UBR with an "entry length" tube. Sorry for not making that clear with the original post.

308's require completely different LENGTH as well as weight buffers.
You won't be using any AR-15 buffers or springs if you want the gun to function.
For your UBR, you will need a buffer that's both shorter and heavier than any AR-15 carbine buffer.
