I'm looking to pick up another shotgun and have decided to go w/ mossberg 500 persuader. I found the 20" barreled ones at big 5. Does anyone know if they carry the 18" model? And if they do which one would you guys go for?

I bought the 20" model. 8 + 1 at 20", or 7 + 1 at 18". I went for the 8 + 1. The 2" is negligable, I can't tell the difference when holding one of my 18" shotties or 20".

The 500 set that comes with two barrels (18 and 28") goes on sale at Big5 regularly. You lose a little bit of mag capacity, but get a lighter and handier shotgun. choices, choices...

I decided to go with the 18" barrel since it came with 2 barrels, the other one 24". Mag capacity is 5+1. I plan to shoot trap someday (when, I don't know) so I went with that model. I don't know if 8+1 would have an 24-26" aftermarket barrel.

Good luck.

The thing is, the 20" barrel seems kinda odd because of its length. I can just see myself putting another hole in the hallway wall because the darn thinig is too long. I plan on making the gun even shorter w/ a Hogue 12" LOP overmold stock. I'll travel around to a couple big 5's to find the 18" ones and make my decision from there. Thanks folks.

keep in mind, if you ever try to do the sidewinder drum magazine conversion, you will need a special adapter for the 20 inch model.

My 20" holds 9 rounds, don't see the point on spending $200 for 2 more round capacity with the Knoxx drum.

Thanks for the info but I don't plan on upgrading to a drum mag.

Mossberg has a youth sized stock you can order. They also came out with a "super bantam" stock that is short and has a removable plate to make it even shorter, but I called them and they aren't selling that item separately yet. I've been interested in a shorter LOP stock but want to handle one installed first, so I've been holding off.

Anyone have any comparison comments between the shorter LOP stocks from

Hogue Overmold

You cannot interchange different barrels on the 20" barrel model that holds 7 rnds (unless you change the magazine tube also - so I read).

I also think the 18" 5 rnd model handles better - seems better balanced to me.
