we have an optics section you know.

Aimpoint for me, btw. But it really depends the application. a 20" SS rifle-length will use a different optic than a 14.5" carbine.

Aimpoint M4S for me on top of a Noveske Lo Pro 16" upper. I love how easy it is for me to aim and the fact that it uses a AA battery means its easy to feed. But since the darn thing uses up so little battery power it hardly matters.

Depends on the AR...

I like an EOTech on one...

And a Nightforce NXS 2.5-10 x 32 with a angle mounted aimpoint micro on another...

Suppose ACOGs are nice too. :)

If i could only have one, it would probably be an Aimpoint Micro T-1.

Ive played with an aimpoint and an eotech once, but never actually fired a gun with them on. I got a free ACOG so thats what I use and I really like it. Although it was harder shooting a rabbit at like 15-20 yards with it on the first shot. User error perhaps? Or maybe it was the scope height to bore difference?

Dont mean to thread jack but where did you find your ARMS 41 B-L? I need one by TODAY pretty much.

How does that work out for you? I've heard many say it's impossible to have a cheek weld with a Doc red dot on top of the ACOG.

If it has a Front FS, than I would put a 4X or higher like an 4X ACOG or SN-4, if it does not have a Front FS but is Heavy barrel then it will be a scope, lastly, if it is a shorty with no front FS then a Eotech XPS-2

I run T1s on my 14.5" and 12.5." An M3 on a 16". And a 1-4 on another 16".

But it depends on what your using the rifle for. The only AR I shoot over 100 yards has the 1-4 on top, everything else never gets shot any farther than that.

DMS 1-4 on a 20" plinker

They all work great at their different jobs!:p

ACOG is not so good for under 100yrds.

As others have said....it's really gonna be determined by your intended use for the rifle. It's impossible to cover all possible uses with one setup. Each will have it's own limitations and drawbacks. You just hafta decide which option covers MOST of your needs and then figger out how to work the down-sides when you encounter them.

Took a class last year with a former Army Ranger with mulitple deployments to Iraq and Afgan. and asked him his preference. He said in Iraq he prefered EoTech/Aimpoint because most fo their engagements were 300m or less. But in Afgan. prefered the ACOG because most of their engagements were 300m +. So it all just depends really.

Prolly the closest to "best of both worlds" would be a red-dot with a flip to side magnifier.

Irons, for now. Don't need more than that to hit the 18-inch plate at 300 yards (farthest distance at the range I go to).

This is my thought as well. Also my goal. I just couldn't afford the flip to side magnifier when I bought the rifle, so am waiting just a little bit to get it. Then this rifle will be using Eotech 512 + Magnifier, with BUIS for backup.

ACOG on the 16"er and a 20X Super Sniper on the 20" SPR. Objective does determine the choice.

Mission/application drives the equipment choice.

Next.

:iagree:

After determininig your mission/application, its a matter of personal preference (and money). I don't need magnification on my ARs. I use them mostly for 200y or less. I have an Aimpoint on one, and an Eotech on the other. I slightly favor the Aimpoint H1/T1. Try them out. They are all very different.

Whatever you do, be sure to have BUIS.

Grumpyoldretiredcop

Variable power scopes. For 16" carbines, something adjustable down to 1.5X at most. For 20" rifles, that's not as important.

I need magnification because my grumpy old eyes don't work as well as they used to.

I'm about to try a TA44 1.5x16 mini ACOG with green circle dot reticle and an ADM mount. These things are just a little heavier than an Aimpoint T1 and I just love the clarity of the glass and reticle. At 1.5 mag it should still be pretty fast for the close targets and that little bit of magnification will be nice for the farther ones. After buying the TA31 4x32 I have to admit I am rather smitten with the ACOGs.

For 100 yds or less I like the Aimpiont T1. Not too heavy, tons of brightness settings, outstanding battery life and near indestructible.
