I keep looking around for a good varminting upper completely assembled. If I have one built, it can cost me towards $1000 and more. Does anyone have any eperience with the pre-built models or have any good suggetions. Thinking of a 20 to 24 inch medium to heavy contour. No rails. Also, have the prtiential to get 1/2 inch groups with hand loads. Also, if someone can tell me a good chamber type. Your input will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.:)

i suggest 20" since it's going to be lighter than the 24" IMHO.

The prebuilt uppers are just fine. RRA sells them as well as others. Of course a free float handguard, and a flat top-upper so you can mount whatever optic you want on top. Rail-gas block as well so you have the option to put a front sight or not too. Chamber it in .223 remington.

Be Aware that uppers are hard to come by these days. There's been a sudden rush to purchase TONs of uppers from a certain state...

LOL right now probably every manufacturer out there is dedicating all their staff and labor towards making as many lower recievers as possible. Variations in finish would lead one to conclude these are being manufactured much quicker than usual.

shoot me an email and I will point you on the right direction, I know a custom rifle smith who will built it custom to your specifications. the best part is he will buy the parts for dealers cost and just charge you the labor :D which can save you at least 30% upwards to 300%, sounds too good to be true, if I introduce you to this guy, you like I will never go anywhere else.

That's exactly what I was planning on building with a .223 lower. Of course, I got a .308 lower now, so I've moved into the pricier bracket for my long range AR. :D The upper is going to be $1200 instead of the $600 I was planning on with the .223. ;)

Here ya go... The .223 Varminter upper I was planning on getting:

The entire finish kit (http://www.model1sales.com/item-detail.cfm?ID=KV2400&storeid=1&image=v24k.gif)

And the price is even better if ALL you want is the upper. (http://www.model1sales.com/item-detail.cfm?ID=UV2400&storeid=1&image=uvarm24.gif)

Chamber it in .223 remington. What's your reasoning here? (I don't know squat, so I'm curious why this matters. Thanks.)
