Which magazines should i be using in my LR308 w/ CMMG lower?

I currently have a Magpul Pmag that has been blocked to 10 rounds...but when i load more than 2 rounds the bolt carrier drags on the rounds in the mag causing the bolt to not shut the whole way.

Should i be using a different mags? Does the rifle just need to be broken in?

i know it's a mag issue because the gun works great when i only put 1 or 2 rounds in it.

Don't the CMMG lowers use G3 mags?

Looks like they offer both the G3 and DPMS style lowers, I just checked their web site

Probably an issue with how they blocked it. I have DPMS mags and they work all right however they don't like to feed stuff with really long bullets, IE 180 grain SMK's.

So it gets stuck when the bolt is trying to put the round into battery? Or does it just go over the round without pushing it out of the mag and getting stuck?

know of any places that blocks them properly? i am running 168 grain federal gold match ammo sierra matchking's... they do seem a bit long.

What ammo have you had success with?

no it will grab the first round and the bottom of the bolt drags on the top of the other round.

So you stick a magazine with more than 2 rounds in, release the bolt and it doesn't close all the way? Is that it?

When you put a full 10 rounds into the mag do they load easily or is it tough to get them all in there? Do you have other mags to try?

edit: cartridge length shouldn't be an issue with the LR20 pmags they are designed for 2.82 overall cartridges. My DPMS ones have a tough time with anything 2.81 or more.

That's it

Even 3 rounds cause it to not load easy. But 2 works. and the bolt works fine with no mag in.

No just have one mag because every place is sold out.

44mag.com has 10 round c products mags for like 15$, midwestpx has LR20 rebuild kits, and I think midwayusa has 10 round dpms and c products. Try another mag, also try different ammo, like maybe some cheap 150 grain fmj winchester stuff or something.

Make sure your buffer and buffer spring are proper for the DMPS LR-308 and for the stock you're using. When I built mine (DPMS LR-308 upper on a POF lower) and was waiting around for the back-ordered buffer and buffer spring to show up - the last parts I needed to complete the build - I installed a rifle length AR-15 buffer and buffer spring just to see how it functioned while manually cycling some dummy rounds though it, and the spring was too weak to fully get the bolt into battery and locked. However, when the mag was dropped and the charging handle pulled fully back and released, it did go fully into battery. No problem at all once the proper parts arrived and were installed. I was using the C-Products 10 round SR-25 mag from MidwayUSA. Also, lube the hell out of the bolt carrier assembly. Hope that helps some. Good luck.
