Bear with me, as I am new to guns and this is probably a very amateur question.

Can you piece together bolt rifles with whatever parts you want?

For no other reason than I think it would be fun.

For example: What I really want is a bolt action .17 HMR with a Mannlicher style stock. ( I have found the one CZ rifle currently for sale, and will just buy that if it turns out I am hare-brained )

Any advice for doing something like this? Where do I find the stuff I need?

Reasons I should not?

Thanks all

Thanks for that link. The article didn't cover any questions I had, but being on the not-in-jail side of the law is always a plus.

What I want is a very pretty small caliber hunting rifle. Squirrels and rabbits and crows and stuff.

I will just buy this beautiful thing if no other options: http://cz-usa.com/products/view/cz-452-fs/

But if I can, I would like to piece it together myself. Just for fun

You can buy a barreled action then throw whatever stock and bottom metal on it you want. The principal difference is that the AR platform can be done at home while bolt guns usually require some level of professional gunsmithing.

I agree with THT. Big difference in the level of skill, tools and knowledge for bolt actions. Your selection looks good so I would be tempted to buy it and save the money you'd otherwise spend on gunsmiths to invest on a good scope and ammo.

Brownell's (see sponsers link above) will have a lot of parts if you want to put one together yourself.
