Hi there, I have a unrestrained question to ask you all specifically for the ones who own a AR15 type rifle. After browsing through this site, i found out that you need a 'bullet button' to detach the magazine. My reasoning is I have nothing against you owning a AR15 type rifle that needs a 'bullet button' because we live in CA. Above all, you may challenge me with this, but I would rather buy a SKS type rifle from china and have no 'bullet button,' correct me if I'm wrong. And I'm fine with not having a AR15 type rifle because forget about the 'bullet button.' So in the end, I'm a simple type person like things plain and jane so this may be the reason why I would rather buy a SKS type rifle instead of a AR with the bullet button, tell me what you all think AR fans. I just can't reason needing to stick something inside a button to release the magazine. Or maybe have the magazine fall out or I loose it.
plz read page 5 of "for all of you AR15 owners" part 1, before you reply

Don't anybody get my post wrong, I do like the SKS for playing around with. They can be a lot of fun. My point though was I cannot imagine picking one as my primary choice. At the very least go for a nice AK if you have to go Warsaw Pact on your choice, or like Ojisan said, a nice Russian\Romanian\Hungarian made SKS. But for NATO style rifles, the AR is just one of the best places to start, regardless of how you load your mags.

Here he is helping another member build an AR:
$800 is very do-able if you understand from the get-go that you will need to upgrade some parts, either before or after they break.
MIC parts that you can safely buy:
Stock, buffer, buffer spring, extension tube. $40.00 total
Other then that,
DPMS Lower parts kit, $90 tops. look at forums like AR15.com and M4carbine.net
upper, $350 - $400 used
BCG, $150 used
Lower, $250 OTD- Stag, Nov, Sun D....
So $800 can be done, if you buy used and know you will up grade parts soon.
Here he is again:
An A2 upper has a carry handle and the FSB is slightly taller. A A4 or A3 upper is a flat top and the front sight base is slightly shorter. A Flat top should have a "F" on the front sight base indicating it is shorter.

LOL. Please read my posts in part1 and you will see what I am doing. Yes I sometimes get kunfuzzed as to the finer points, I'm an old man give me a break...lol
The SKS is a fine weapon. I dont need to worry about loosing my magazines, have you ever tried to load an AR15 without a magazine...its a deal killer for me. A detachable magazine is an accident waiting to happen, without the magazine all you have is a 7lb golf club. The bayonet is there at the ready, are you going to tell a bad guy to wait while you install yours on an AR15?

Well, I agree that the BB must be an irritant, I understand the frustration with the need for such politically driven drivel like bullet buttons and no fore grips and crud. I honestly sympathize with California AR users having to put up with that crap. BUT, like those users, I would certainly do so happily over choosing an SKS.
But then my AR bias comes from it being the architecture I'm familiar with cleaning and maintaining because of training, so my bias may be an unfair one to expect of others. The AR is so bloody simple to work on, and the SKS makes me want to pull out hair when trying to clean it after range use. My brother owns several SKS in various configs, and I would never pick any of them for a first choice rifle. I can completely strip down any AR for cleaning in under a minute.

NO ONE cares if you buy an AR or an SKS.

I'll play....
I couldn't agree more. The SKS is one of the finest battle rifles ever made. The simple fact that there are NO magazines to slip out and lose is just one example of its superiority. Then there is the round it shoots. Complete ballistic dominance up to 133 yards. That IS where most ground engagements take place, you know.

Some of the posts in this thread are from gun owners who are dorks & mall ninja's who live in fantasy worlds...most of which who own sub standard AR's.........Delton's quickly come to mind...in which case I would own a mini14 rather than a crap AR

I love my SKS, I also love my AR15. I think I see the point of the OP in that if you are limited to a fixed magazine, why not just use a weapon designed for a fixed magazine? If that was the question, I would respond;
"The bullet button creates an extra step for a detachable magazine and is not really comparable to a system where the magazine is fixed."
Shoot, maybe I'm the dummy for giving the post so much attention but if I wasn't going to respond with something productive, I'd try not to respond at all.
Facepalms and cute little gifs are the internet equivalent of saying "DER!" and chopping at your chest. If you think someone is acting simple and childish or you disagree or think they are a "n00b", just don't respond, why feel the need to get attention through condescending e-slang from four years ago?

You basically misrepresented yourself. You're basically impersonated someone that you are not. (In the other thread you praised your BB equipped AR). Were you gonna continue to pretend to hate BB's and rifles with detachable mags before everyone started crapping on your thread and before you edited your post for people to read the other thread?) Everyone's got an opinion and their right to it. But don't pretend to be something you're not by setting up a thread this way. What are people to believe about you?

The bayonet is there at the ready, are you going to tell a bad guy to wait while you install yours on an AR15?
I don't remember seeing anything on the news about a guy who grabbed his SKS and shot it out with a 'bad guy'.. You do this regularly do you..?
And I know it was posted at least twice in the other thread...how you missed it I don't know...An AR-15 set up like an SKS(without a pistol grip) falls under the same rules. An SKS with a pistol grip falls under the same rules as an AR-15 with a pistol grip..
For whatever reason you have a problem with AR-15's, whether you admit it on here or not.
Be it you couldn't afford one so bought a $300 SKS, or you can't wrap your mind around people having different tastes in weapons, I don't know, but the only real solution for you is to get over it.

Ahhhh, the old "Faked out lighting" scenario? You see a bright flash of lightning and expect a big boom. You start counting expecting to hit 3 or 4 at most, and end up counting to 10 or 15 before you hear this little bitty thump sound that barely even resembles the expected thunder.
