Hey team,
Hereís a fun rifle I picked up last week and I had the opportunity to shoot 300 rds thou it last weekend and really enjoyed it!.. The kick was a little more than my AR which was surprising considering that some AK really bite..

I really enjoyed shooting it as it fit good and its surprising really light for a milled receiver / 7.62x39 rifle.. I was just screwing around with it on open sights at 100 yards and was quite pleased at the results. No jams / miss feeds at all, it preformed superbly straight out of the boxÖ

However when I got home that Sunday night, I decided I wanted to make a few small adjustments to it, so I jumped on line with my credit card in hand and went to the MAKO group for some upgrades.

1. Pistol grip with storage cavity http://www.makosecurity.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=AG-58&Category_Code=_VZ58
2. Upper & lower handguards with rails http://www.makosecurity.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=SA-58&Category_Code=_VZ58
3. Collapsible butt stock with shock absorber http://www.makosecurity.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=SBT-V58FK&Category_Code=_VZ58

I then added on a EoTech and grip pod I had been saving for something..

Iím taking her out this Sunday for another few hundred rounds and some test drills.. Iím looking forward to it seeing how accurate she she can be at 100, 200 and 300 yards..

Whish me luck and Hey! Thank you for your time and have a great weekend everybody!..

I have one of the 'Military Classic' versions with the nice wood stocks, but I swapped the pistol grip out for the Mako version since the original was a little small for my hands. The Mako grip is much more comfortable.

Those railed foreends and the collapsible stock look a little hokey IMO, but I may get a stock anyway to try out. The LOP with the original stock is too short for my long arms.

Poor VZ58

How could you dress up it's dead soulless body in plastic like that?

very nice I have the same setup for my VZ 58. I added a CTR stock and a side rail mount for a scope on mine

Linkpimp and VickG818, you've got some nice looking VZ 58s. How is it sighting through the scope without a cheek pad?
Good luck and good shooting Sunday, I'm curious on how well she groups at 200 - 300 yards.

You can improve the optics, by going with a micro dot like Burris Fastfire or Aimpoint Micro or other replica if you have constraint budget.

To each their own, but I like the original better also. It's your rifle so you can do as you wish.

hahaaaa.. Got it!.... you guys crack me up.. Iím sorry if I offended anyone.. Good thing this is my rifle and not yours then ha?... hahahaaaa..

Well I'm going to shoot the poop out of it in few hours and see how all of the crap works.. I couldnít add a sight without the front grip and well one thing led to another.. Hahaa...

The important thing is if it will hit stuff out at 300-400 yards....

Totally agree a better / different sight would work better, but I only have the 1 acog and 1 eotech.. Iím thinking about getting another sight but I havenít figured out which one Iím going with next and Iím really not looking forward to dropping another 5 - 700+ on another sight but I know I needs to be done..

Anyway Iíll post up the range report in a few.. have a great one team..

You have to own one and shoot one to understand why some chose to have the furniture upgrade.

The classic mil furniture is sloppy and loose. The handguard could never installed tightly and it rattles unless you do some mod. I've had others to concur on this problem.

Upgrading the furniture, like what the OP did, would improve in weight saving, ergonomics, and the rails to hang your favorite gadgets.

Actually, the Israeli made furniture set is the best you can find for the VZ.

I sold off my AK's in 7.62x39 when I've had the VZ upgraded. ;)

Were you able to reuse the fore end pin? Also, what did you end up using for the grip screw?

The important thing is if it will hit stuff out at 300-400 yards.

AK accuracy and a lack of magnified optics will probably prevent that. Unless you've got some biiiiiiiiiiiiiiig targets.

VZ.58 is not an AK. ;)

this is my VZ 58

The upper hand guard allows a co witness with factory irons with a micro red dot, or a co witness with back up irons when using the railed stock adapter and railed barrel clamp

What the OP did and you did are similar but different. Yeah you are right I don't have a VZ so I can't speak about it personally. I just don't like the fact the VZ got tacticooled. Your VZ isn't bad because it retains the side folding stock and the front end doesn't look that bad. But like I said, to each their own.

You've got good taste in rifles, but I would have left that VZ be.

ATAS gear and AK's don't go together, imo.
