Hey everyone, I am building my first AR and just recieved my complete upper reciever in the mail a $695 STAG 2ht, 16" 1:9 chrome lined. The finish on the 2ht doesn't seem to be that great and I am just not that impressed with it, but it is my first one so what do i know. Anyways the company I purchased it from says I can exchange it if I would like to. The only other two uppers that have caught my eye and are in my price range are the $699 LMT 16" 1:7 and the $630 Riflegear mid-length 16" 1:7, both chrome lined but no rear sight or quad rail like the 2ht. What would you think is the best bet for the price???

If I remember correctly, and I'm sure shark will fix this if I'm wrong, the Riflegear upper is part DD. To what extent, I'm not sure. I've heard of some delays in ordering direct from LMT. Both of them are very good.

Strange...The finish on both Stags I own is very well done. Better than the LMT I had. Have you compared the Upper to the lower it is going on? Or the other Uppers you're looking at? The finish may look drab if it hasn't been detailed since manufacturing. One of mine had this weird "ghost" grey look to it at first.

As to your last Q, the RifleGear Mid-Length sounds nice but not the 1/7 twist. Just my .02.

Brand new in the box, the paint is not evenly covering the front sight and block, and it is worn off at the top of the front sight posts. Nothing major and nothing mechanical. Just wanting to get the best bang for my buck before I am stuck with the STAG(which is cool with me).

I like my 2HT and didn't have the issues you're describing. It's a great upper at that price but for seven hundred I wouldn't want any asthetic blemishes either...just exchange it if you're not happy.

Funny my 2HT is probably the best looking AR I have. Sounds also like it was an oversight (hopefully).

Yeah, for almost 700 I wanted it to be blemish free, if it had been without any cosmetic defects i probably would not be posting this thread.

My 2ht is pretty and blemish free. If you're liking the rail, just exchange it for another 2ht. I absolutely love mine and haven't had a single problem with it thus far. Plus, she eats everything I feed her!

Please take photos of what you are describing and post them here.

Maybe you can just exchange your 2ht for another 2ht

Id say exchange like everyone else. I bought the 2T, and the whole gun was perfect. Id say it was a quality control issue.

Might just be a bad egg that slipped through it.

I'd bet on it. Call them up and ask for an exchange.

What's Wrong with 1:7 twist? That what most high-end & Mil-spec rifles have...

The front sight is not painted. Did you try cleaning it off? If you do have bare metal, return it for another 2T.

stuck with stag? lol. as if thats a bad thing

if all your hell bent on is the appearance then just get something else.

But Stag arms has been making great AR15's for years. if the finish is scuffed, its because it was not handled properly by someone. UPS, employee at location of purchase, w/e.

just return it for a new one and relax

My stag 2HT was my very first upper. And the one I go to first. It has been flawless even with about 2k rounds of wolf ammo, and another 1500 rounds of federal factory new. No issues, other then the barrel nut coming loose, which was easy fix. Even the BCG has been perfect. I would not hesitate on buying another stag upper since this one has been great.

I looked the upper over really well yesterday and I think i can touch up the paint missing on the top of the sight post. Also, the scratches on the barrel are only on one side and are very small but definitely there on one side and not the other. Do you think I should exchange it over the scratched barrel and missing paint on the tip of the sight post. The company will exchange it but I will probably have to wait another week.
